I was just reading the specs on todays pic of the day and am wondering how the washer managed to spin at 900rpms and not roll itself out the door? Did the wheels lock?

pretty sturdy in fact...for one, it drains the water out first, which kinda lowers the center of gravity of the load....very few times has it ever gone out of balance....
I would have always like to see these in the filterflo fashion, just on a smaller scale...like the Kenmore portables....
only thing with thos dryers, they vented right into the room from under the door....excess moisture and heat, especially for a confined space....
but for many, in that time frame and need, it fit the bill for many people

I have this pair in my in use in my basement.
Don't use the dryer during the summer due to
it being unvented.
The washer gets used often. It wants to move a little
bit due to the hard floor, but doesn't take off across
the room. I do put the front wheels into rubber furniture
cups to keep it in place.

Those little Hitachi made washers are almost bullet-proof with the only thing that seems to stop being the timer-advance in my experience.
When that happened to the one we had in my folks coast house, my mother treated it like a semi-automatic and moved the dial between the various functions.

RedCarpetDrew's video clip of wash action.
Full cycle of a heavy load. A few years newer model than the above clip. Part 1 = Fill & wash.
Part 2 = Drain & Rinse. There's no spin between wash and rinse. Delicate & Perm Press cycles have 8 short "cool down" sprays during the drain period.
Part 3 = Drain & Final Spin. Eight short sprays during the final spin.

I think the wash action is good, as long as you
don't overload.
It's impeller action is somewhat like the Hoover in that, the
longer the wash time, the greater the tendency to tangle.
I tend to use mine more for white clothes because I just don't
have that many so the loads are usually small for a full size machine.

hmmmm....
i guess i'm just not a big fan of the impeller washing action. it seems to be very much like the hoover pulsator wash action, where the clothes stay together in one lump. i like the agitation of the individual pieces of clothes moving through the water better.
and althought i really like the look of the little portable washer, i just can't get over the impeller washing action. in my opinion, it's too bad that GE didn't put an agitator in these cute little portable washers. i especially like the look of the vintage one's timer knob settings and everything. it just looks cute to me.

No baby Activator??
I was actually surprised when I saw that it doesn't have a miniature spiral Activator! I love the look of those agitators, as well as the fact that they can handle oversized loads in a breeze. I always felt that agitators almost had personalities, so the spiral ramp Activator makes me think of a sassy woman in a big flowing dress.
