That Frigidaire WO-65 washer with the white plastic handle on the lid is the exact machine my dad purchased for my mother after my sister was born in October 1951. In all previous ads the WO-65 had a metal handle on the lid. It brings back a lot of memories of my mother washing diapers for my six younger brothers and sisters until the machine finally gave out in 1963 when it was replaced with a Frigidaire Custom Deluxe WCDA-63.

Strange that they did that plastic handle for a short period of time. James you are the only one that I heard of that have even seen that plastic lid handle. Maybe they ran out of chrome mixture that week!

Well I don't think so! I believe the "brand of choice" of at least 75% of the Applianceville members on here is GM Frigidaire! At least for me it is!

My "modern" washer spin-drains, and just the "gurgling" sound it makes when the tub is empty is one reason to get a "spin-drainer."

With me, it depends on the appliance.
For Electric ranges, Frigidaire Flair rules.
For gas ranges, companies like Wedgewood-Holly, Gaffers & Sattler with features like all chrome tops and chrome-laden control panels are IT
Refrigerators, Frigidaire again, with GE close behind, for innovative looking designs over the years
washers & dryers, Kenmore rules for their control panels. Other manufacturers would hit with really attractive panels, but KM consistently had good looking panels year after year.
Dishwashers, KM again. Things like lighted control panels, chrome buttons, and to water temp status lights (I love lights)
With me, it depends on the appliance.

Well..... I wouldn't expect to be SMACKED for the fact that I happen to like the best looking,and most reliable(and popular) vintage washers that were ever produced. I just figured I might get it for the bad poetry and the worst off key singing ever posted on this web site!! LOL

I don't dislike anything! I just like Frigidaire better! I have all Frigidaire in the main kitchen too. I have to say though, it's not built anything close to GM stuff! But nothing is! Haven't had any trouble with it though. Probably just jinxed myself!

Personally, I fell in love with a circa- 1964 Hotpoint Silouette 16 at my cousins house. Great cycle which included the "fountain filter," an overflow rinse, and a wonderful spin-drain out of that solid tub that has only been rivaled in my personal experience by the intensity by the early unimatic Frigidaires. Lots of drama in that machine...lots of pauses, too. Also, a neat looking control panel. Can anyone tell me if Hotpoint was always a division of General Electric? Yes, thank you to all of those neighbors and relatives who bought something other than a Kenmore for us to enjoy.

Rick: Your '56 is such a beautiful machine. I love that chrome winged cap, that cap as well as the red bakelite cap are the two rarest Whirlpool agitator caps. Is that a Kenmore lint filter I see in there???
Jetaway: I agree with you, Hotpoints were very dramatic too, especially because they have no outer tub and you can hear and feel the water hitting the cabinet as it goes into spin. If you are washing in hot water in a chilly basement, the outside of the cabinet suddenly goes from cold to hot. I love that!

I really want to see the engineering behind the "no outer tub" that Hotpoint used. Trying to imagine what it would look like. When did they stop using that design? And speaking of Hotpoint, Robert, how's the '56 coming along? Anything other obstacles come up in it?

Unimatic, you said it so well!!! I suspected that the Hotpoint may not have had the outer tub as you described in the early Frigidaire Machines. Thinking of the sound of that water hitting the cabinet while the motor revs up into spin still sends chills down my spine. Thank you Aunt Shirley (Frigidaire) and Aunt Betty (Hotpoint)for putting up with your crazy nephew!!! BTW...the Hotpoint seemed to take forever (1 - 2 minutes)for the basket to stop spinning. Could this have been possible or was something probably wrong with the tub brake (or lack of a tub brake?)
