Today's project, emptying Paul's secret storage...

This morning, I went with Paul to get everything from his storage back in his garage. I left home at 4:44 AM and just came back home a few minutes ago!

Here's what his garage looks like now! Everything is back there but there's still some work ahead as not all appliances are ready for the laundry room! With a garage that's now heated and insulated, he'll be able to work on his appliances during the cold season!

Today was unusually hot for this time of the year, so we connected his new Westinghouse Imperial fridge and it works! We're not sure if it still self-defrosts like it should (we were told it didn't by Paul's friend who owned it previously but it cools well and the thermostat cycles. We also connected the 1965 Frigidaire Imperial Cycla-Matic fridge for the first time since he got it (it was still connected and cooling fine when we bought it last year) and it made a strange noise. I had to check that and I found something interesting hiding behind the condenser that made that noise!

Then, on my way back home, I had to get another dryer exactly like one I already have... And it also matches the last washer I got! (the other dryer is buried in a pile of stock and I couldn't pair it with the washer so I bought another! This one will need a new felt seal at the back of the drum as this one is in bad shape and the heating elements are glowing bright red...

This was a good one... Remember when I rented out a set of turquoise appliances to a movie production company last December and the GE SD203 dishwasher came back sans the lower motor access panel? Well, I pitched a hissy and went out and arranged to buy a similar machine just to get the panel. Yesterday, we started up the Frigidaire refrigerator and it made a rattling sound (what is it with me and rattling Frigidaires??). Phil had a look and lo and behold - the dishwasher panel was crammed between the coils and the back of the fridge! Fortunately there was no damage to the refrigerator but the panel is nicely scratched. Fortunately I have the replacement on the way 'cause that GE dishwasher may find its way into a new kitchen in the near future!

I'll post a few more photos of the 'recovered' items and maybe, just maybe, I'll have the time to fiddle with a 40s (I think it's a 47 given the J-47 model number) Bendix automatic washer this weekend...

That Frigidaire

Is the exact washer we got in 69 when the 55 Pulsamatic died, It ran 17 years and was replaced with a Maytag that was gONE in a year..LEMON!!!!

The washer is a WCDATN, a Custom Deluxe with the Rapidry feature that I recently got in the US. The dryer is a Canadian model but that's the closest to the US Custom Deluxe. Both of these were produced from late 1967 to 1970 as 1968 "N" models.

My washer was made in 1968. I haven't looked for date codes on the dryer. Unlike the "N" Custom Deluxe models I have seen from the US, this one (and the other identical dryer that I have) still have a porcelain top.

I still hope to get the TOL Canadian "N" model set one day. The TOL model lacked many features of the US TOL models but I still think they were really nice machines. They had a 1966-style console with the round dial and electronic dryness control and the washer had all pushbuttons and features that were also similar to the US-built 1966 Custom Imperial but with black and silver control panels. The Canadian Frigidaire washers and dryers from 1968-70 didn't display series names like Deluxe, Custom Deluxe or Imperial which I think is a bit odd.

Other Custom Deluxe models.

The WCDAN is very similar to mine, I think it's almost the same as the Canadian model that would match my dryer. (picture 1 from Eddy 1210)

The WCDAFN (picture 2) has no Rapidry 1000 but it had the fabrics selector.

The WCDARN is the one with the suds saver (pictures 3-4 from Trainguy).

The WCDN (picture 5 from Ben) had no rapidry either but it has 4 knobs, an infinite level water control and a "lint away" lamp.

The WCDXN (picture 6 also from Ben) was the infinite speed version of the Custom Deluxe with an infinite water level control and also a "lint away" lamp.

There were various Gold Crown versions which had similar features.

I also have a WN7 Gold Crown (picture 7) which has the Rapidry 1000 feature, timed fill but separate knobs for the water temp selection which allow more choices for wash and rinse temps.
