Have some smelling salts...

Yep. On a Hoover, the "up" position means "off". Unless you install it upside-down.. which I'm sure is possible, but I've never tried.

On a Eureka you have to step on the switch... If you like trampling, that is...

Steve, I think the Oster fits you properly. Up=on, down=off, momentary shake=gives a burst of power at the right time. Remember, you have to turn the blendor on to make a milkshake.

Now THIS Hoover toggleswitch (on my Celebrity S3005) is the way it's supposed to be; the machine is turned on when it's UP! LOL

The same goes for the Constellation 843 from Fred. On a more serious note, I'm not sure why Hoover did the opposite for the upright cleaners. But, the later Hoover slide-switch uprights as well as the Royal cleaners had this setup as well; it was on when it was down. Anatomical correctness was definitely not in the air when those switches were designed, but I won't go there...;-)

Well, it makes sense on an upright vac if you're looking down on the switch (as many women do), pushing it down and dragging the poor thing all over the carpet just seems natural.

TRAIL IN THE SAND

I dimly remember a toggle switch on the old crinkle-finish upright Hoover we had in the 50's. Yes, Mom let me vacuum the living room sometimes.

I bought one of those chrome cast metal Osterizers about 10 years ago. It replaced a push-button yellow plasticated Oster that gave up in the middle of crushing ice for a Daquiri. Maybe it was trying to tell me something. Haven't used the "new" one much, but I very much like the way it looks, and I never did quite get the need for all those buttons/speeds on the plastic one. On/Off/Pulse works just fine for me.

I still have the plastic jar from the old Oster, plus some small 1 cup storage jars that are pretty cool. Where the lids have gone, I have no idea.

Where have all the jar lids gone, long time passing?
Where have all the jar lids gone, long time ago?
Where have all the jar lids gone, gone to crushers everywhere.
When will they ever turn, when will they ever turn?
