Can a wringer washer be transported on its side? I moved numerous automatics on their side in my car without incident, but what about wringers? Thanks!

Peter, I really don't know for sure
Always borrow my LTC's compact SUV to transport wringers. I simply slide off the wringer and the machines fit in just right upright. I know that some Conventionals, Easies, in particular do not like to be left long on their sides. Tranny fluid leaks ensue. I'm sure Geoff will know, but to be safe, just pop off the wringer, and stand the machine in your trunk. Once, I had to move a Tag this way in my Monte Carlo, with the help of a few ties and bungees and some creative angling . Good Luck, Buddy. Wait for other responses.

Bad idea.
I know Maytags like to leak oil when put on their sides. The oil is thick like slime and has a smell you won't soon forget. My best guess is that it would mix poorly with upholstry.
Just to be safe, I would reccommend upright transportation,

prop one side up
Peter, just stuff an old blanket under the upper part so it's not absolutely flat and keep the wringer gears on the upper side slightly elevated if you have to move it on it's side. I've done that before with my SQ wringer and no problems.

I have Toyota 4Runner.
Do most wringer heads come right off by pulling straight up on it?

Yes they will all come off, just lift right up. Some have a lever that needs to unlock them from the down position: ie Maytag, point the wringer control lever 180 degrees to the opposite direction then pull up on the wringer head.

I transported my Maytag wringer about 12 miles on its side. I did have an old blanket under it. It made a little mess, but wasn't too bad. You may need to change the oil after, depending on how much is lost.

Well, I located a Maytag Commander (? the square one with the heavy hinged lid) with the raised lettering on the front. Not like I need a wringer, let alone another machine, I was curious about transporting it if I get impulsive.

I have the N2LPS (i.e. Chieftain). I love it!
The Commander had a removable lid, you found the Master (with the hinged lid).
