I was home the other late afternoon tapping away at the keyboard. It was a warm evening and the windows were open. I heard this annoying whistle as I worked, it went "Twee twee twee twee twee-ahhhh...." . Over and over and over.

"Damn", I thought. "It's that kid down the block who got a bamboo flute. I wonder if he drops it and I find it, if I could just consign it to the trash can and nobody would be the wiser? Well, at least he's consistent, and it's got a certain rhythm, even though it's basically just one note".

I continued surfing the web and more or less got used to the sound. Then I got up to tend to some stuff in the kitchen and maybe peek out a front window to see if I could spot the kid. As I walked by the open laundry closet, I caught the Neptune washer doing its weekly load of bath towels. On every other rotation, the Neptune went "Twee twee twee twee twee-ahhhh...."

Sure, blame the musician first, Rich, LOL!

I had a "live band" set up in my warehouse apt., and one night after a session with the band, I managed to forget to shut off the P.A. system and the keyboard. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, I was awakened abruptly by a series of loud, eerie cluster-chords from the keyboard. I sat bolt upright and thought "Holy shit! Some drunk has broken in to my apartment!" My heart was pounding, and I was more than a little freaked out. I turned on the lights, only to see my cat, The Swede, walking across the keys of the Roland.

That kid might grow up to become a master flute player in an orchestra, and to think you would've killed his dream by throwing away his flute lol.

Let kids be kids.

Oh, I wasn't really going to trash his flute... just wondering.

Anyway, don't know why the Neptune is starting to make those whistling noises on heavy loads. Maybe it's on its way out. Finally.

Now you can get something with a window

Oh, I already have something with a window. In fact, I have four of them... but since they all have their own heaters, and my workshop has water (sort of) but no hot water, I keep the Mieles in the workshop and the Neptune inside where it can draw on the hot water tank. But... if the Neptune goes belly up you can be sure I'd seriously consider putting one of the Mieles in there. Unless I opt for the Frigidaire front loader I also picked up for $90 off Craigslist a few years back. It would also appreciate being close to a hot water tank. Oh, I guess that makes five washers with windows ;-)

Meanwhile the Neptune just keeps chugging (and whistling) along. I figure the whistling might be something minor, like a belt, or maybe some debris rubbing against the door boot. Who knows? Life is too short.
