Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Velo twintub

The Velo was made in The Netherlands, in Barendrecht to be precise. They were sold as Norfrost in the UK too IIRC. I can't say often enough the later models are of inferior quality. Velaundry (as the name of the manufacturer was) used cheap components trying to prevent from going bankrupt. That policy was pretty much the reason that happened in the end.

Ah thanks Louis

They look like they are well made aesthetically but I think I did read somewhere that it's the mechanics of the wash side that lets it down. Not sure about the spinner. They always seem quite expensive when they come up but it would be good to see one wotking

UK Appliances

Thanks to Steve for posting the items to the thread. Someone else has kindly added some items directly to the scroll bar above. Whilst it is much quicker to do so I would ask that folks please post to the thread if they have the time - as we can have a dialogue about some of the items like the Velo twin tub posted above.

It also gives a change to highlight something unusual as I will demonstrate below. So please, if you have the time, post to the thread. If you are not sure how to do so my email address is in my profile, I will be glad to detail how its done.

Bendix Dryer

Now here is a perfect example of something unusual.

OK, its a late version of the Bendix dryer around from around mid-1970s to mid 1980s - so what?

What is unusual about this is that it is the larger 9lb version, something that is not obvious from the scroll bar. I had quite forgotten that the introduced this larger version until I saw this one, and indeed I think there was a 9lb version of the earlier styling too.

And the price is very good as well given that it appears to be in good condition

Sunbeam Shot Of Steam

Another walk down memory lane for me - my mother bought one of these in summer 1973, and I bought an identical one in Autumn 1979. Gotta say its expensive for its condition - these were designed for LH or RH cord entry and the blanking button for the side not used is missing.

Philco Top Loader

Goodness, nine bitches watching this one :)

Its just down the road from where I live but at £65 it will be staying there, or at least I wont be buying it. It looks to me like it might be late 1980s. There must be some resemblance to a model I have previously featured as it seems from the wash control that the max wash temperature is 60 degrees but there is a button to boost that to 90

Electrolux Freezer

More of a curiosity than something that you could reliably use on a day by day basis I think. It must be from the mid 1970s at the latest as I bought a similar freezer myself in 1978 but has the later style of chrome handle attached on the side of the door - the hanging of the door on mine could have been easily change too.
