I remember that brand, but my first was a Panasonic. I then had one more after it. A Sony combo/cordless phone which had a mini cassette tape. I liked it a lot. It lasted several years also. Now I have a Uniden without a tape and three cordless phones. It has some static.

thick edged formica work tops were also in style in the states in the 70's. Except not in California. Ceramic tiling was the norm there with tall bull nose fronts.
California had a conifer tree conservation law, and plenty of handy tillers were available with Mexican heritage where terracotta tiles are made.
 
Size isn't everything

I think these tops are designed to more likely give an impression of 2 1/2" - 3" thick although of course its just an impression, they would be in truth more like 3/4". You did see tiled tops here in the 1960s and 1970s although I have no recollection of seeming them with the bullnose fronts as you describe (I have seen them in the US) - normally just a wood trim

Early 1970s Hotpoint fridge freezer. Well after sitting for 40 odd years next to a cooker its going to be pretty well knackered, not to mention the condition of the side next to the cooker. Maybe they have lived off salad since the mid 1970s. Curiously enough its sat next to a later version of the Tricity Marquis ...
