Hi Guys, especially UK……I’ve been remembering a unique dishwasher from the late 80’s/early 90’s. It was a compact Creda dishwasher and what made it unique was that it was a different format to full-size, slimline and countertop.
It was most similar to a slimline, but I’ve a feeling it was 55cm rather than 45cm, and it was shorter, door completely flush to bottom of machine, the idea being that by removing the door of a standard UK sink base cabinet it would slide straight in, onto the bottom of the cabinet, under the draining board.
It was a pretty novel idea but an internet search has turned up absolutely nothing on it so far. I think it may have been called Creda Spacesaver. I’d love to hear any recollections, experiences or tales people have of it, and even better photos and manuals if such things are out there.

Cheers, Paul

I do indeed recall those space saving dishwashers and another whose brand I cannot remember is one that was on rails like a drawer you open the cupboard under the sink and pulled it out it loaded from the top when it was ready you threw in the powder and away it went, It reminds me a little of the F&P dishdrawers but it was not so smart :)

Hi Austin,
I had one of those pull out dishwashers back in the 90’s, when I was about 20 and renting a house with my brother. I got it at an auction for about £20.
It was made by Servis, it was missing its rails so we just stood it on the kitchen floor. I seem to remember being able to get a surprising amount into it and it washing pretty well.

Hi ChesterMike,
That’s the Servis dishwasher I had when I first left home. It was fun and did a great job.
The Creda was more like a conventional slimline dishwasher, front opening door etc. The big difference was that it was shorter, so rather than sitting on the floor it was installed into the drainer side of a conventional sink unit, leaving the continuous plinth below unchanged.

I remember seeing a compact type you described, whether it was Creda or Hotpoint, I can't remember. This particular machine was a display model in Currys, and seemed to be equipped with a glass or Perspex door - I think it was a one-off for display purposes only.

The spray in this display model was rubbish; the spray was weedy and the arms didn't turn.

The capacity was a bit smaller than a standard slimline too. It might have only been six or seven place-settings. As for the control dial, I think there were only three programmes.

I don't think they were popular either. The control panel on the one I saw, irritated me - I thought the design was basic, cheap and nasty.

I wonder who made it? I remember Hotpoint of that era had a deal with Bosch for the small compact table-top dishwasher. The footnotes always made mention of the different shade of white finish to the appliance.

I suppose too, that where they indicated the machine might be situated - under the sink's draining-board - that would be valuable space in most basic kitchens at the time. The cutlery drawer would be gone, as would storage space for cleaning agents and general detergents. I can imagine wifies saying, "No - I need that space under my sink!"

I totally agree, my recollection is of the door feeling quite flimsy, and the control panel being pretty tacky and cheap looking. Nevertheless, their uniqueness intrigues me and I’d love to look at the racking and see how much I could creatively load into it….

Foraloysias, I had one briefly in the 90’s, it was fun, and washed well, I was glad to have it at the time. I’d love to find one, just for old time’s sake! I’m sure I could find a use for it. Unlikely to turn up though, I imagine they didn’t sell in great numbers and were more or less disposable, I’d be surprised to find one all these years later.

CREDA DWB502 Modular 500 series ....

.... well, that was one of them anyway.

This one was on ebay a number of years ago and is the only one I have ever seen.

The pictures aren't very good sadly - it was listed before ebay had the zoom facility.

Better than nothing though.

Appears to show 'Made in UK', on top right of control panel.

I wonder whether it was made from scratch here? Or whether the unassembled parts were imported and assembled here, with a locally made fascia?

The one I saw had a white or off-white control panel. I'm not sure that it was a smooth glossy fascia... I thought it had a matt, textured surface.

Hello Paul I have a few vintage dishwashers and one of them is a sort of predecessor of this creda. The kenwood dishwasher. It was designed to fit in a cupboard or on a bench or even hang on the wall. It has an impeller in the base that throws water around. 3 cycles and it sits and heats before each cycle the starts. It’s very noisy and quite efficient If loaded ok but it suits smaller crockery of that era. Ie tea cups and saucers small glasses etc. Not today’s mugs and tall wine glasses. It’s currently at my friends who is a collection of vintage dishwashers. I also have a Electrolux dish maid. A dishmaster and 2 colstons more to follow.
