unable to add photos to a post. (solved thanks.)

Hi Robert.
I am trying to put up a post about a small hand mixer I just bought at an opp shop.

I have photos of it in my Pictures folder. If I go to that folder directly, the photos are there, and have .jpg file extension.

when I create a new post and select "Add Files" from within "Add Photos Here", I can navigate to the Pictures folder but there are no .jpg files found. I have folders full of photos within My Pictures, I can open any of those folders from within "Add Files" and no photos are found. "no items match your search." This happens the same if I have selected "All Supported Types" or "image/jpeg."

I have been a Linux user for years but I'm currently using my late father's Windows 10 PC - recent reinstall of Windows 10. So it's Windows 10 where I'm having the trouble. Haven't tried Linux yet... Happy to give that a go if you suggest.[this post was last edited: 6/5/2020-06:18]

This has happened to me in the past.  Windows 10 here. 

 

I think the last time I had trouble it was because Google has apparently hijacked my picture files and wants to save new pix into them with something other than a .jpg extension.  I got around it somehow, but I can't remember what I did.

Windows by default hides the extensions on most file names.  Are you sure you're seeing the real extensions?  Perhaps the files are named picture.jpg.somethingelse, with the somethingelse part being some other non-image file type and is hidden when you view the Pictures folder directly via Windows Explorer, and the Add-Photos dialog thus isn't seeing anything valid to select.

Select "All Files (*.*)" on the Add Photo file selection dialog if you aren't already doing that.

There's a setting in Folder Options / View for "Hide extensions for known file types" or something to that effect.  Look if it's UNchecked so you can see the complete file names via Explorer.

I fired up my Windows 10 computer. Everything seems to work. Is it perhaps a browser issue? Or perhaps the size of the file?

seems funny though, not one single photo in my entire My Pictures shows up.

Browser is Firefox 77.0.1

I wasn't seeing the "all files" option at first.
after deselecting "hide extensions for known file types"
I then got the option to choose "all files (*.*)

Then I could choose a photo...
