The redo puts it to about what it should’ve looked like in the first place. Definitely seems like there were conflicting styles/tastes in the original design.

The view

is great! Nice renovation, very high end. Not crazy about the tile in the powder room. That's at least a million dollar home, or close.
8 foot ceilings don't bother me because of our winter heating needs.
Ours are 8 ft., 9 in the step down family/dining room.
Portland doesn't have severe winters.
We just got a 7 foot tall china cabinet, and it is in our living room. It makes the ceiling seem higher. The house had a former pass hall at the back of the living room with a pony wall. After it was removed, it opened up usable space, but the room felt very long, and narrow. This piece balances the room now.
We had a sofa table, and grand father clock there before. It was time to retire the early 90's one of a kind local Milford artist's abstract acrylic painting which hung on that wall. It's colors are aubergine, mauve, teal, silver, and white.
It looks like a whale spouting water (sort of), with a rather pronounced appendage.
I paid her a handsome $200 for it. At first, she did not want to sell it.
