UPDATED SPEED QUEEN DRYER DR5003WE for 2021

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

One thing I wish they would do is redesign their dryers from the ground up since they tend to scorch clothes at times and my aunt who has a Amana gas dryer made by Speed Queen isn’t very thrilled with it compared to her old 1999 Whirlpool Ultimate Care II 29” gas dryer.

SQ Dryers

We have never had a complaint of scorched clothing on SQ dryers, SQ dryers are not exactly the same as Amana, and some MT dryers of that design that were built when MT had control of SQ laundry designs for home use.

There is nothing wrong with current SQ dryer design, it is actually about the same as a Maytag Stream-Of-Heat dryer just built better [ blower that does not come loose on the motor shaft, better idler pulley arrangement, no plastic inner door, and much better lint filter design.

I think we would hear if they were having problems with scorched clothing as we are the factory service for 10,000s of SQ dryers that have been and are being sold in the DC area.

The only thing I would do differently is make the drum SS instead of galvanized steel. The heat control is just fine, I also made sure to get the DR7 with the "medium" setting. The dryer doesn't run any hotter than any other dryer we've had. We also have good venting. Bad venting will cause any dryer to run on the hotter side without enough airflow.

I bought a lint guard to go on mine and appreciate having it, saved me many times from getting clothes full of lint cuz I don't usually bother to empty the lint before pulling clothes out.

When Can I Get One

New to SQ, anxiously awaiting the release of these. Does anyone know when these models will hit the sales floor? Also, could anyone explain why the DF7 seems to be in a different "category" than the DR7. I've never been more excited to do laundry in my life.

Scorched clothes

I’ve used my fair share of Speed Queen dryers in college and apartments.
My clothes coming out of those dryers never had physical damage that I found.
But they ALWAYS smelled like toast on 9. Came out very hot and crispy. Way hotter than the Stream Heat MT I grew up with. This led to lots of ironing.
The clothes never smelled fresh but burnt and metallic. To a point one time my dad said I smelled funny.
Yes I showered.
I was not a fan.

Toasted clothes

Our DR7 definitely bakes the clothes on Regular heat. We use the delicate heat setting most of the time
and the smell is not there. It’s just like when you open one of the commercial dryers at the laundromat while it’s heating, kind of like a cooked smell.

Question, is the “Perm Press” a medium heat?
