Ugh. Of all the things that threaten the Family, religious fanatics latch onto the same-sex marriage thing?? We have mothers sh!tting out babies with no money to feed them, fathers in prison, youths roaming the streets like hooligans.

Just look at Iran and Saudi Arabia to see how dangerous religion can be!

Still gets me that blacks, as a whole, are as guily of open discrimination as they accuse their white brothers and sisters of being. And discrimination is discrimination, no matter what the issue.

Oppressed groups

Almost never learn tolerance and love through being oppressed. Rather the opposite - just look at the way many gay men treat other gay men.

It is strange tho', how desperately so many in the Negro communities cling to a vision of us which is false. Given the HIV rate in Washington, DC., I should think it time for their religious leaders to rethink their hateful positions.

Good point. D.C. does have a very high HIV infection rate, due to much "down low" activity. But this is the classic example of people using the bible and their religious beliefs to prop up their own bigotry and hatred, because it's what they've been told and been taught, no matter the color of their skin.

Personally speaking.....

I don't need anyone to decide whether or not I am married, or whether I can. Ones own stamp of approval is all that matters. You're with the one you love be it recognized or not. Not saying that equality isn't important, I just stopped caring about others narrow mindedness. And I agree with the above statements fully.

Doug, what you say is very true, however, we both know that the legal status afforded married couples puts us at a severe disadvantage socially, economically, and in just about any other facet of life where rights are afforded to married couples which are not extended to us. The bottom line is that it's just grossly unfair and puts our families at a severe disadvantage, especially if, God forbid, one partner becomes ill and dies. Why should you not receive the same benefits and considerations as your married counterparts to help you put your life back together after such a terrible life-altering event?

Douglas,

I appreciate your liberal tendencies (liberal as in Ron Paul, not liberal as in my progressive leanings).

Unfortunately, when those of us who are gay and in partnerships seek to protect our partners and ourselves through those legal contracts which supposedly grant us hospital access, inheritance rights, etc., they are frequently challenged. By the time the courts have ruled against the monsters who deny gay men and women the right to be with their partner at their death bed, it is too late.

Tax benefits, immigration, there are over 1,000 areas in which we are discriminated against.

Either repeal all state recognition for all marriages or make us equal.

Everything else is neither a liberal position nor fair.
