USA shopping spree

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Looks like you had some shopping fun! They are all very common products to our eyes, but I'm sure the Brits shake their heads in wonder when I order products from the BritSuperstore they can find on any store shelf in England.

Crest Toothpaste:  Many years ago (1976-77 to be precise) a girl from Frankfurt was a foreign exchange student in my high school. Her two favorite American products were Crest toothpaste and Three Muskeeters candy bars.

A spree you've had!  Is that a jar of Mc cormicks Grillmates rub?  I use the Smoked Applewood version of this and it makes grilled tofu very tasty probably works very well on meats as well.

Most of these items are gifts. For example the spices are for someone who loves to barbecue. The cinnamon toothpaste is an absolute favourite of many people here I know. Unfortunately, there is no cinnamon flavoured toothpaste over here and it doesn't look like there will be one in the near future.

The Gain of course is for me. Love it ! I also was curious what the cinnamon Pringles would taste like. I think I like them.

I also love the Twinings tea. That tea is also available here, but funnily it is more expensive and there is not such a big box like that one on the photo.

The products from Olay and St. Ives are gifts for 2 girls. The Kabooom cleaner promises to spray on blue and to turn white when the work is done. I just bought it, because I want to see that with my own eyes. Don't really believe it will work.

The Glade candles are for another friend who is just a scent addict and as we only have a few scents available over here, the range is much bigger in the US.

The chewing gum is for a friend who loves spicy chewing gum, so that would be perfect.

Finally the Febreze car is for our "dog-car". We have a dog and one old car that is just used to drive the dog to the field to have a walk or things like that. That product is supposed to be sold in Germany next year as well, but why wait?

And there is one Mineral powder that would be for me as well, as sometimes I have break-outs in my face and it does not look nice, when you are in the airplane where everybody looks at you. That powder just covers perfect without making me look like a doll.

Happy holidays to all of you !

The Twinings Green Tea is my favorite Green Tea. Over here in America, Green Tea seems to be brewed pretty weak. It's almost transparent. I like a stout cup of tea and the Twinings is just that. It brews much stronger than any American Green Tea I know of.

Very Interesting....

....To see what someone in Germany thinks is worth seeking out and taking back. None of those products are terribly special here, but from your post, it seems each one fills a niche that no one in Germany fills.

It's the same here - things that are commonplace in other countries are very hard to find in our stores. I like good tea, and every supermarket here is filled with world-famous brands, but always in teabags, which I abhor. Good loose tea has to be ordered, with the sole - and occasional - exception of loose Lipton tea, which can be found in local stores once in a blue moon.

Kaboom

It does change color and it works well on soap scum. It isn't perfect or anything, but if you have a sink, for instance, with more scum on one part than another, the Kaboom turns white over the lightly soiled area first.

The scent is a little strong for me in my small windowless bathroom and I'd advise using it in a well ventilated area.

Incidentally, congrats on getting to go to Miami! I'd like to be there now....

When I go to USA visting family I usually go there with 1 empty luggage in which I fit 2 big empty bags and few items and come back home with three hold luggages of stuff including clothes! 1 is included in flight cost and for all the extra ones I pay 60$ each for a max of 15kg each which is worth all the shipping fees and costs I can get on every website.

Only problem I get there once every 3-5 years now!

Actually, I didn't know that toothpaste even existed. Never seen it in stores, seems to be sold online only. And it costs a little fortune as well. So it is the easier way to buy the Crest or Colgate in the US.

By the way: Can anyone recommend a good fabric cleaner for non-washable textiles? I have upholstered chairs and the fabric has got some stains. The sprays sold over here just deliver poor results so I was wondering if the US has to offer better products?

Even things that are available are not always the same if you buy them in a different country. I bought some Kit-Kat bars here in Hungary a few weeks ago and they were nothing like the ones I buy in UK. I suppose they are made under licence somewhere, like Nescafe coffee.

mrwash

I like the Woolite for fabric/uholstery cleaner in the spray can. Cleans well and leaves a good scent.

I find it funny that you ask that. I like Capture Dry Cleaning powder (http://www.captureclean.com) for both carpets and furniture. It's easy, it's effective, it doesn't make a mess or get things overly wet.

But my preference, and the product I buy most of the time, is imported from Germany. SEBO Duo-P powder (and the Daisy Brush and, in my case, the duo Brush Machine, all by SEBO) really made cleaning my rugs, carpet and furniture much faster and easier than anything else I had used before.

I never much liked the sprays and shampoo machines I've used, and the wet solutions don't seem to clean the furniture as well as the dry cleaning powders.

Good luck!

The Sebo powder seems to be mostly for carpets. I didn't know this brand as well. But I will have a look for the products that you mentioned. Thanks for that.

For upholestered chairs I use a mix of ammonia water and hydrogen peroxide and rub and dab with a wet cloth on it if inside is not cardboard or stuff like that ...
Otherwise at LIDL I found a very good oxy spray for this kind of things and it worked well on our chairs at seaside house which have a cardboard thing inside so could not use ammonia.
