Hi there,

We recently purchased a F&P Aquasmart 8kg washing machine (a top loader with a High Efficiency mode). The user manual advises to use HE low sudsing detergent.

We have quite a lot of non-HE detergent left over from our last washing machine. If I use that non-HE detergent in sufficiently small quantities in the F&P Aquasmart should there be any problems ? (I can turn off the HE mode on the machine if necessary)

regards
Peter

You Can Try It...

But you might want to cut down your detergent amount by about 1/4th or so and see what happens.

You didn't specify if the detergent you already have is liquid or powder, so make sure you do as the instruction book says and mix it (powder detergent) with water before you add it to the dispenser. Adding an additional shot of water (as a chaser) wouldn't hurt either. It would also be advisable to switch to HE detergent after you get rid of your other stuff first.

Hope this works! Happy laundering!

Ineffective cleaning maybe

Hello Peter,
You could try reducing the dosage of non H.E.detergent, however I would think that you would end up with ineffective cleaning as a much reduced dose also means reduced cleaning power and your clothes may not be as clean as you would like.
I recently discovered that the Surf powder I was using in my L.G. (non H.E.),was leaving undissolved residue in both the lint traps and so I just gave 2 full boxes to my neighbours as I would prefer that to having damage done to the machine so personally if I were in your situation I would just give away the unused normal detergent and buy H.E. recommended detergent just in case one time you accidently overdosed with the high suds and it damaged your new machine.
Cheers.
Steve.

Thanks Bill and Steve for your advice.

The leftover (non HE) detergent I have is powder, and as per the instructions we were premixing it with water, but we've stopped using that for now since we purchased the HE liquid detergent.

Our old top loading machine didn't have a detergent dispenser so this dispenser is a novel concept for me !

I might ask F&P what the worst case scenarios would be if I use the non HE detergent (at an appropriate qty.) in my Aquasmart.

regards
Peter
