At the beginning of 2011 I made a resolution to use up my entire detergent stash before purchasing any more detergents/laundry products. While this has been a very difficult process for a detergent addict like me, I am proud to report that nearly 14 months later, the end is in sight. I did make one exception last year during my trip to the UK/Ireland when I bought a small box of Ariel Colour tabs and a small box of Persil Bio powder from a small shop in London near my hotel. I wanted to buy larger boxes but there was not an ASDA or even a decent sized Tessco or Sainsburys nearby and I was short on time.

I am essentially down to 1/4 of a bag of cheap Mexican detergent (that doesn't clean all that well so I'm using it for towels and rugs), 1/2 of a botte of Mexican Ariel Liquid (amazing stuff), and almost a full box of SA8 with Bioquest that will probably last a few months. I've moved down from 3 cabinets full of detergent to one, and have plenty of room to spare in that one. I'm glad I'm using it all up and that it's not just sitting around the house taking up space, but I'm quite bored with what I have and would really love a box of Tide right now!

I suppose I've learned my lesson and will not purchase more at one time than I can use within a reasonable period of time. On a brighter note, I have saved tons of money over the past several months by not purchasing detergent!

Any other addicts out there using up their stash at the moment?

Im trying to ..

use up what I got, but Im not making any head way on it.
This past summer, I won " Year supply of Tide HE" sweepstakes, needless to say, my collection of Tide has grown, and still is slowly! Out of the 10 coupons you get for the year, I still have 3 left to use by Dec 31,2012. I have 5 small bottles of Liquid Tide HE of various varieties, 4 small and medium sized boxes of different varieties of Tide HE Powders. Some of the liquid Tides, I bought before I won the sweepstakes. Also are some large boxes of Non-HE of: Gain(3), Cheer, Tide and Tide Coldwater that I bought a long time before getting a LG front loader.
I have enough Detergent to last me....say 10+ years?

I am also trying to use my stash up lol. moving into a place that has a lot of shelf space in the laundry did not help the addiction, just more and more space for all the things I've always wanted to try lol. Currently the cupboard next to the washer is filled with various Tide and Gain liquids from the US. My shelves are filled with a mix of Australian, Uk and American liquids and powders then a few softeners (by few i mean probably about 10....lol)

I am working down the supply slowly but surely. When my partner Matt gets the opportunity to do the wash (very rare), he favours the tap bottle of Gain Original HE i have sat on the middle shelf. I use the huge box of Persil Bio sat by the washer and the german Persil Color Megapearls on top of the washer. Favourite softeners are the 105(approx) load bottle of Downy Mountain Spring and Fluffy Floral Enchantments Spice Allure (aussie).

Thanks to Amazon (with shipping from the US to Australia), the local UK shop upping their laundry variety and Australian stores for slashing prices and introducing new and exciting detergents. my collection has dwindled and grown about 10 times. Currently my financial state is stopping me from buying anything from anywhere except the local supermarkets so the collection isn't growing, who knows tho when the next payweek rolls around.

A lot of friends walk in and say "don't you have enough of that stuff" or "i know where i'll be doing my laundry after the zombie apocalypse" lol.

Heres a video where my partner Matt kinda forces me to expose the collection a little lol.

Enjoy and happy detergent hoarding lol

I'm glad I'm not the only one...

Well, I already knew that as a fellow member in town has quite the stash too. He is actually somewhat responsible for me having a detergent stash to begin with (yes D, you know this is true, lol) but what fun in collecting it! We started looking for bargains one time at Big Lots and it was on after that.

I am getting better disciplined with detergent, not buying more at every sale I find, etc. I seldom buy any now, and overall am aiming at having less at the end of each week than I had at the beginning.

That said, I still have about 12 2008 and older 1x concentrated 100oz bottles of Tide, Gain, and Cheer, liguid. I also have probably 1 to 2 dozen 2x bottles, again, liquid. I also have at least 1 dozen boxes of powder, which I found on sale as P&G was converting last year to the concentrated powders, and one store was clearing out their supply of Gain - 40/31 load boxes were $4.79 or something like that. With coupons they were silly cheap. Recently my favorite grocery store had several older 63 load boxes of Tide w/Downy powder, that I was able to buy for $5.00 each.

My solution to getting rid of the mass of stock was several fold. I have kept my parents in detergent for more than a year and a half, and a co-worker as well. It's a good way to get rid of stuff, and they are always appreciative. At the same time, I have given away at least 50 packages, with another round about to go, to our local RAIN office (Regional Aids Interfaith Network). This is the only Charlotte non-profit organization taking care of those afflicted with HIV and AIDS. They are more than appreciative, and I am glad its going to good use. I have volunteered time with them in the past, and this way I can keep giving, and help clear the supply at the same time. Sometimes when a sale comes that I can't resist I say 'oh, I'll just give that to RAIN'.

I would love to be back to where I was in 2007 at one time though, when I had to go out on a rainy Friday evening to get detergent because I had nothing in the house and gym stuff to wash immediately and the weekend wash to do the next day. Unless I enter major purge mode, that won't happen soon...
