U1025

Seamus, i love that You Tube commercial, also the one for the Hoover Freedom. Here is my U1025. I'm told it was the last of the "lightweight uprights" in the USA.

Hey Little Sport!

Rich! It's good to see the GE and the Cadillac out of the garage! Or are they out for pictures only? Good to see you posting. I'm still new but am getting the hang of scanning pix here.

Thanks for sharing

Hi To All of You,

I want to Thank each and everyone of you'll for sharing your pictures of your vacuum cleaners and keeping this thread going as Where I live I'm the only collector now around as there were 2 of Us here in Lafayette, but 2 yrs ago Kyle ended his life. I often wonder what ever happened to his collection.

Seamus

Seamus-- I loved your pics...especially the U1025 with the tools! It was our last lightweight until out Elite came out in 1988. I wish I had a Junior with a "dirtsearcher" headlight. They are so cool looking! Thanks for posting the pics.

Great thread!

Here is one of my rare Hoover canisters...the Constellation model 434 from 1961. They were built from 8-9-61 until production ended on 10-20-61. I do not know why the company discontinued them so soon as I like the color combo of Canton Red and White. I do have the hose but it is packed away somewhere with the telescopic wand. These are great canisters and I am looking forward to buying a new one here soon.

Hoover Duster

Here is a rare Hoover...a 1930 model 200 Duster. It was Hoover's first attempt at a canister model. Basically they took a Hoover upright and turned it on its side. This was a direct air cleaner and many fan blades were bent once in the hands of the user. They only made them for a year before discontinuing them. Mine has a replaced bag but has the original plug and switch. I also have all of the tools and hose for this model but again they are packed away. I wondered if anyone else had one of these tucked away?

the golden ticket

Here is my golden anniversary model 65. Hoover made some gold model 65 convertibles to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 1958. They were given to dealers as a promotional item and given to customers through various contests. Gary Moore promoted this model on his television show and in magazines. It was basically a model 65 painted gold with a white hood and bumper. The bag was gold with gold Hoover lettering which is hard to read in the photo. Other than color there really is no difference. Of course they still cleaned like a Hoover! I found this one at a second hand store in Cuyahoga Falls, OH for a grand total of $8. I gave the guy $10...he was happy to part with it and make room in his crowded shop. Sad to say the building/store are no longer there. That was a great day when I stumbled across this machine!

At present I don't have any really "rare" vacuums.I have one electrolux "triple X" that I bought from someone who bought a Royal "torpedo" canister to replace the 'Lux.I have two Electrolux LX's in both the bag ejector mechanisms are corroded beyond recognition.Happens around here with the bad humidity. The machines do work OK other wise.
Martin-On your Electrolux "CA" commercial machine-what type of bag or container does it use to hold the dirt-that machine looks HUGE!!I do have two Electrolux "Shop-Vac" type vacuums-one of them has a pwernozzle outlet and is marked "For dry pickup only" on the machine-the other one can be for wet or dry pickup. It has a deflector in it to prevent water from getting into the motor and a float. Both have stainless steel drums.5 gal "Shop Vac" bags fit the dry pickup one. When I got it-was full of cigarette butts-had to really air it out.One came from a vac shop-the other from ReTool.

One more!!!

Hey Marty

LOVE the U1025 :)

As you are no doubt aware the UK factory made the base unit for these and the US style handle /bag were added once they arrived over there ;). Attached is a pic of my standard 1012 showing its top fill bag- I dont think the US ever had this arrangement!

Sorry to go on lol.....

But the Postie brought this literally 15 mins ago :)

I know all you American guys are gonna go "Whats that doing here???"

However....

The UK spec version is just about the rarest Senior we have over here(more so than the pink 652). It was imported either as an exclusive or when the UK plant went on strike. The serial # dates this example to November 1974

Red and White Connies

Hey Tom

Firstly the U1025 isnt mine lol ;)

Was Jeffs 574 produced to match this(although at a later date)??- again the ultra short run is VERY strange!.

I cant believe you only paid $10 for that 65!!- bet you thought christmas had come early!!. I think it would make a BIT more than that on Ebay- not thats its one youd wanna part with LOL!!.

Will drop ya a mail later :)

Seamus and Marty, love those Juniors! I have the gold U1025 as well (shown here next to a 1989 "KMart Eureka" model 630D), but it's not as mint as yours! One thing I like about the Juniors is that they have horizontal motors and fans; clean as well or better than their full-sized cousins in my opinion! I'm still out to find a set of tools for mine, I know they're out there!

When was this particular model made? I'm guessing mid-70's, like around 1975? And was the DirtSearcher model ever introduced to the US?

Btw, I like that top-fill bag adapter. Such ingenuity, simply turning a Type C bag upside-down! I had to replace the bellows that connected to the fill tube on mine, as it somehow became melted if you can believe that! Luckily I found one NIB at a vacuum shop in Houston. Didn't notice it until I used the machine for the first time and it leaked dust all over the place!

Buffalo Joe!

That Model T is incredible. And I thought the Model S was a stripped-down machine. I guess this is the vacuum Fred would have bought for Ethel. It's almost the same shape and size as the Oreck Professional "Back-pack" unit that we use at work. I imagine one could mount it in some kind of sling and carry it around "papoose"-style while you clean house.

Juniors/Lightweights :)

Hey Austin/All
Obviously my knowledge relates to the U1012 ;)

The U1012 was introduced in Jan 1976- It replaced the 1346A(same apart from colour and bottom fill). My standard example is from Feb 1976 making it a pretty early one!.
The Dirtsearcher version was the U1016- same body colour but with dark brown front cover, bag etc- for some reason the U1016 is FAR rarer than either the U1012 or indeed the previous Dirtsearcher model (1354A).
As far as I know the Dirtsearchers never made it to the US, nor did the "New" flat belt/square handle models.
With regard to the performance the carpet/rug cleaning ability dosent quite match that of a Senior/Convertible- however the tool suction is a different story!. Despite the 250W single speed motor(less than half of the Seniors 600W!!) the tool suction is very noticebly better- this is due to the almost sealed fit between the converter and the fan as opposed to the (defiantly) unsealed design on the Senior!!.
The tool kits still pop up pretty often on Ebay Uk- let me know if I need to keep an eye out lol!. As you can see in Martys pic the hose is of the Hooverflex/Ultraflex type as were all UK tool kits- Marty do the white clips on any of the metal rods, of any of the tools have Hoover embossed?? if so this would indicate those parts are UK made-from what ive been told US versions were plain.

Hope that helps- Jeff, Tom and Fred will no doubt give you more info on the U1025 ;)

Seamus
