Okay, I know that many people here love the Connie vacuums, but how does everyone feel about the Hoover Celebrity? Are they just as good or any good?

The Hoover Celebritys are very good vacuum cleaners. The early models were loud and not as easy to maneuver as the ones later in the series. They have good hoses, tools, suction, a large bag and a great power nozzle. There were several different models over the years from a "budget" type to a middle of the road and a deluxe. The more deluxe models had bigger motors with more than one fan. The later ones also came in "Quiet Series" that had more motor baffling to make it less noisy.
Jeff and Fred, am I leaving out anything?
What makes you ask? Contemplating getting one? Parts and bags are still available.
The Constellation does not have as strong suction as the Celebrity, (in my opinion), and there was never a model with a power nozzle.

BeG, you are speaking of the late 70's early 80's flying saucer looking jobs? W/wheels? I have one that I bought brand
new from the "Emporium" in either '79 or '80. It had great suction, but was a bit cumbersome (actually, it still has great suction!) Mine is a swell two tone blue mol model with a
power head, on a low pile wool carpet I have to decrease the suction or I can hardly vacuum. They are kind of heavy to pull around being metal bodied, but they clean like a champ.

Charlie is correct in his assessment of the Celebrity. I bought a couple new and with the quadraflex agitator, they are hard to beat for cleaning. Great suction, large bag and good construction. I have one that I bought used, a TOL orange Celebrity II I believe and it is a great cleaner. I am not sure how much of a dust leaker they are, but probably not good in that department compared to machines of today, but I would definitely use one for a daily driver.

The reason I ask is because I've been contemplating getting on a Constellation, but I like the Celebritys also and figured that if I ever came across a Celebrity, then maybe I can buy one if it's comparable to the Constellation.
Just trying to give myself more options is all.

I had a bright orange 1978-1979 Hoover Celebrity III a couple of years ago. The Celebrity III was the "budget" machine Charlie described; straight-suction, hovering model, the most common on eBay as well. Was not quiet by any means (had a whine comparable to a Eureka Mighty Mite), but had TREMENDOUS suction and inhaled anything in its path. Very fun to use as well...had no trouble at all FLYING across the floor or carpet!
While I LOVE my Constellation and find it to be a great vacuum as well, the Celebrity models pack more power and are the best for serious cleaning or use as a "daily driver". Would I have another Celebrity again? You bet!

Did you see this one on Ebay, I was half toying with putting in a bid, I definitely won't if you want to bid on it because I'll find one here locally sooner or later.
Now of the two, I would rather have the Connie because it's so quiet and cooler looking but again it doesn't come with a power nozzle which doesn't matter if you don't have much carpeting.

The only caveat--
is that the Celebrity is very high wattage..some are over 1000 watts, and in places with low capacity wiring, it's easy to overload.
I love them, though, and have been on the look for one, but haven't found one I like at a price I want to pay.

The one on ebay is a BOL 1975 model...The first series ran from 1975-79 or so and were the "Celebrity" and Celebrity II series. The II series was the P/N set
Celebrity III was suction only, Celebrity IV was P/N 1979-1982
Celebrity QS included both suction only and p/n models and ran 1982-1988
All good machines, huge bags, great airflow and little suction loss. IMO one of Hoover's better canisters, their best being the Dimension series introduced in 1985.
Hoover never really cared much for making canisters, I think they always felt their uprights better.
They sold alot of Celebrities though....

I remember buying my ex a Celebrity II back around 1977, fire engine red with the power nozzle. What I didn't like about it was the power nozzle had to be plugged into a wall outlet and you had the power cord curled around the hose then across the floor.

Those Dimensions are fabulous with the electronic controls. And the on/off switch in the handle of the power nozzle is one of my favorite items considering how early they had it.
Bosch, Miele and Lux seem to think they invented it in the last ten years when we know it was much earlier with Hoover. I use my Dimension on occasion and would put it up against the Air-Way Centurion as the two best cannisters ever made for cleaning.
Funny how early features are reserected by other companies. I'm sitting looking at the the 2-motor Air-Way upright from 1935 thinking how they were literally light years ahead of everyone in the vacuum business.
Anyway, the Dimension is and will always remain one of my favorites. I got some great bags from Chuck that are not really for that vacuum but if you cut the collar they will fit and they are made of a wood pulp celluse "type" of material by Hoover. I can't even find the part number in my Hoover service manual. It is: 43651906 and it is for Electronic, Automatic Sensotronic. Must be foreign?
I wanted to try them out to see is the filtration was any better. The results are not in yet.

I have a TOL Dimension 1000 S3283 from about 1987, I paid $20 for it at the flea market. I agree its one of THE BEST canister vacuums ever made, quiet, good airflow, lots of features, and decent filtration.
Its one drawback is its size, its like a Microwave oven with a hose on it.
The TOL Dimensions had issues though, namely the PCB controls were dodgey and expensive to replace out of warranty.
I'd go on record as saying the Dimension canister was the best cansiter Hoover ever made.
The bags you probably have are sensotronic/Electronic 1000 bags from the UK
I have a couple laying around, will have to try them.

Arent the motors in Constellations longer-lasting? and also, noise is a big factor for me so i have to go with the Constellation.

I don't think the Constellation motor was any longer lasting than one in a Celebrity... The two technicians where I work both have Celebrities under their workbenches-one is a QS, one is an older 'Estate' model. The nice thing about those H bags--you can pack them FULL, and the airflow/suction remains pretty constant.
