VCCC Convention 2006
Wow--What A Convention! This was my first convention attended, and I must say I had a Ball! The cleaning competition was both interesting and challenging, the tour of the Fox Theatre with Stan Kann, and getting to use the Mighty Spencer Vacuum Cleaner was great! I'm looking forward to next year!

Next year when the VCCC convention is in Omaha I will try to make it down to see some of the festivities, it sure does look like fun <br
Now here is a question that I have wondered about for quite a while. Can on of you vac boys explain to me why this particular model of Electrolux is always missing a piece from the front door? You can see right through to the front of the bag, was this they way they were made or was it converted at some point? I have found at least five of these vacs at the estate sales and everyone one has been like this?

Thats the model LX, and the "hole" is basically a visual check for presence of the dust bag. That was Lux's first paper bag machine and featured their (in)famous bag ejector, a mechanism inside that when the airflow drops to a certain point the front pops open, and it *ejects* the bag. I don't think its possible to close the machine properly without a bag in place.
These are fun to play with, and if you get a machine with the ejector spring wound a bit too tight it will launch the bag across the room

Thanks Jeff, so it was designed that way! I always thought it looked like something was missing. Ohh and I will have to experiment with the Eject-o-bag. I wonder what would happen if I added a stronger spring? Must stop--don't get me started, I'll end up on "Pimp My Vacuum" <br

They did come in chrome and yellow with a red script. Same model, probably a running change.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago. My mom had purchased a new one back then, you bought them from a salesperson that came to the house, like Kirby. She got the accessories such as the floor polisher, paint sprayer, mothball holder. I think it cost about $300.00 at the time. I called it the "tonna-cleaner" because they weigh a lot. <br
When my folks passed away a lot of stuff was given away or sold, and the electrolux was one of them. I have been wanting one for a while, and just like so many other collectibles that I have been thinking about, one appeared at an estate sale, in nice condition, although with the wrong hose and no accessories. It should have the woven hose, but it has a more recent hose with the external spiral <br
So I got it and use it as my daily (or weekly) hard surface floor cleaner. The bags are available at my local hardware store (Emigh Hardware, an Ace Hardware dealer) the package says "Tank cleaner" an apt description. I enjoy using the lux, it really has great suction, and the cord winder works great too. Ejector mechanism is not working, which I gather is pretty normal. My mom's did work for many years, and then failed and would eject with a partially filled bag, my dad disabled it <br
I have a Kirby also, for the carpeted areas. <br

Of course I'm partial to Electrolux because my grandmother who had the '58 Frigidaire Pulsamatic washer, had a post-war XXX or model 30 Electrolux which I use to love to help her wash and vacuum her house (imagine that LOL), when I was little.

They are great! Which vacuum won the contest? Is there a bracket for suction only? brushroll/beater bar? You guys must have had a great time. I saw a Dyson in the background? How did it do? I know that a vintage cleaner must have outcleaned it. My favorite vac was the Celebrity Guardsman. I'll bet that will clean anything. (Of course I'm a Hoover fan too.) I like that Lux 60 also. How many vacuums were there and what was the best in the terms of cleaning?

The LX....
I have my grandma's LX she bought new in the early 50's. My mom has said she spent many hours using that machine. Grandma even managed to save the box. She had stored old clothing in it and I had to get it when I got the machine. Its got the yellow sides and its original hose <br
