Working on the Westinghouse Programmed Computer. Most of all the rubber was bad, some of which I had replacements for and some of which I had to make other pieces fit. Got it running pretty well for just a few minutes, then CLANK CLANK! Seems there were a couple of coins that worked their way into the pump! Opened it up, removed them. Its running again when just a few minutes later: CLANK CLANK CLANK again, and MORE coins! It was kind of like hitting the jackpot on a slot machine, only a lot more trouble to pick up the winnings. Finally removed the drum vanes, and the sump was just loaded with coins and pins and nails, and chains and JUNK!. There was so much gunk caught in it I thought it best to replace it rather than clean and reinstall the old one.

Coins that worked their way into the pump. It had been years since this washer had any water in it. I had run hot water thru it to soften the seals and flush any gunk out, but there was just too much.

Removed the sump cover, it had to be torn off in sections. Here is the sump guard with more of the coins on it. My total jackpot was $1.78! Yeah!

This was what was left of the old sump cover. Its supposed to be a flat piece of aluminum, but it has to be torn off to be able to fit thru the drum slot opening.

Rich and I had bought out another old dealers parts a while back and we got boxes of NOS and used parts. Here is the new sump guard, I was so lucky I had a couple of these in my parts..........

This model had 2 drum vanes, one grey and one red. The red vane is the Lint Ejector vane, with openings for the lint/water to flow thru it..............

"Suds & Water Saver" You are supposed to set the red sliding lever to what the scale indicates the clothes "weigh". Love this marketing feature, in real life its pretty useless, but love it just the same!

Yeah its working! I still have a few more leaks! but at least I made progress. I really love this machine and thanks to member and good friend Jeff from Mansfield for making it available to me. I still have quite a bit of restoration on it, but takes time. Feels good to at least see it working again! Thanks Jeff!

Hi Jimmy ! So glad to see it up and running. Did you get the spin worked out? Have you started working on the dryer? Hope to see the pair (and you) soon. By the way didn't westinghouse have an ad about them paying for themselfs with savings ? I don't think this is what they had in mind !

Hi Jeff, yes I got the spin fixed. The reason it would not spin was the water pressure switch was bad. I had a new one from my parts inventory, and also a used one. But the machine was still miswired and it took me about 2 hours to trace all the wiring, one by one and correct it. It cycles fine now, but I still have a couple of slight water hose leaks to deal with. It runs nice and quiet tho, its a great washer!
