OK, thanks... what I said would still stand regardless of the loading type anyway... as the European market as you propably know is mostly dominitated by FLs.

Unless of course one decides to buy one of those portable washing machines for the caravan... they can still be used at home. I saw a model in a catalogue the other day and if I'm not wrong it'd cost about £85.00 and can wash up to 1kg (2.2lb) of laundry: well, I guess... at least one can have clean underwear and socks with one of those ;-)

In the US with sale flyers from Home Building stores and other big retailers, one can find a new washer and dryer set for 450 to 499 dollars. This can take a few months waiting and hunting until the super sales are "happening".

With a Haier, the lowest here is a HLP21N or HLP23E; but these are super pulsating washers that are in the 220 dollar range for the lowest ones. The buyers of these are more often a dorm, condo or apartment user than a home owner.

Thus most will buy a new full 27" wide 3 cubic foot washer for 250 to 300 dollars; than buy a 220 dollar 1 cubic foot 18" pulsating machine.

Some local newspapers have regular adverts where a local repair type guy sells used washer and dryers in the 100 to 150 dollar range for each with delivery too. This gives the buyer a better "feel" since the seller is not just some single seller; its is a installer reselling the trade-in's that still have some life left in them.

Many folks like me value the cost too of having somebody home delivering the product, ie we do not have to mess with the whole hossing around and back break of buying and removing anothers washer.

Dryers here often rarely fail, folks will replace the old dryer so they have a "matched set of washers and dryers".

Here on a lark I actually bought a Haier HLP21N last fall on ebay for 5 dollars, shipping was 39 thus total 43 dollars.

The machine was a as is junker, ie ruined in shipping.

All I had to do was bend the sheetmetal and vacuum out all the broken pieces of styrofoam, and the machine works fine.

I would have bought this machine back when I was in an apartment.

There are niche markets for small washers here for stealth usage in apartments, where one is really not suppose to have a washer. THere is also small washers for boating and camping usage too.

A typical store here has about all 27" frame washers and dryers, not smaller stuff

@haxisfan
LOL yes, the EU market is full of FLs.

Yes, those caravan models can be considered too.. I have a tiny caravan twin tub that I bought in China. It's really fun to use it and it's a very good machine for the price I payed for it (actually, if i consider only the price i payed, it's the best washing machine in the world LOL.)

Of course those aren't too practical for everyday laundry because it's too small.

story

me i remember when i replace my 93 topload washer dryer for the duet set i have today both washer and dryer where replace at the sametime even do the dryer was still working and if you look at the following pic when in 2009 my grandmother replace her belt drive kenmore washer for her direct drive whirlpool washer she keep her vintage dryer for half of 2010 until she replace it for the matching dryer that go with her 2009 washer. And sadly today rather than move good working appliance pepole moving today prefer to sell there old appliance with there house or condo and buy a new set. And can anyone tell me when whirlpool started using bigger lids on there direct drive wahser and do any one have any brochures scans of this 2009 whirlpool dd washer. Thank you.
