Still think this is because of termite tubes in the drain... I am going to flush it out with plain water at least a couple more times before I attempt the 'maiden wash'.

I had a newer version of the GE combo in canary yellow (circa 1962) and it worked great until the trap door on the drum accidently opened by being hit by a tennis shoe and 30% of the load got stuck in between the inner and outer tubs. What a frigging mess and time consuming task that was to get the clothes completely out. The jeans and shirts were destroyed. I had to permanently seal the door to be able to use the machine again. It also did not spin very fast. I think it spun about two to three hundred RPM.The solinoid would tighten the belt by pulling it tighter to increase the speed or rpms.The dry cycle took as long, if not longer than a current Equator or L.G. combo that is smaller but does the same size load of wash using only 110 volts not 220 or 240.

Yeah, the spin is not that fast...

I have noticed that too; I still have to actually try some real laundry in it, though!

Why did you delete the drain cycle? I've never seen this washer in action before! I wanted to know what the drain cycle sounded like.

Very nice Paul! You've got a beauty there - transmission controlled and all! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are having issues with the drain line. Properly routed and flowing drains should not cause that to happen.

That is a beautiful set up you have installed. Do you
have the diswasher hooked to the air gap too? I would think that the installation would have reserved the fawcet air gap
solely for the dishwasher, and had a regulation size drain separate for the washer.

Paul and Darren - Thanks! Good to hear from the UK contigent! BTW, my parters mum has a 1984 Zanussi front-loader that I have warned here if she ever wanted to replace to let me know first!!

Ben, I really should have thought about checking the air gap BEFORE I installed the washer - when the water flows there are what looks like chunks of earth washing out. I had tons of termite tubes on the whole kitchen centre, so I am hoping it "all come out in the wash" lol.

Darrell, I didn't use the dishwasher air gap due to space considerations. Odd thing about both appliances is that they will siphon water back into the machine if the drain was in water; guess that's why GE had the air gaps. Funny thing about the dishwasher air gap is that there is really a space between the machine outflow and the drain hook up. The washer isn't like that at all...

Finally after a week...

I've seen the drain cycle for the first time today. Awesome!
