Frigidaire Deluxe A/C in Georgia

Not pretty but if I'd be close to it, I'd buy it anyway and I'd try to make it look better! Looks like a 1961 model.

Phil, that's not too far from you! (but I guess you have absolutely no interest for that thing!).

And a good description with plenty of pictures and details including the important dimensions!

Another one I'd like to have if it was closer!

We have a 15000 BTU per hour 220 Frigidaire window air conditioner. It's an older model and not pretty, but works great and still blows very cold air. It is 220 not 110. It has the big plug like a stove. We are asking $100 (cash only). It's big and heavy. It might fit in a large trunk, but I would use a truck/SUV instead. Please email with any questions.

It is 12000 BTU and has been in storage since my house A/C was installed . Its approx 26inches wide and 16inches tall. Fridgidaire A/C

Notice how a few of the ads say how cold the air is.

That was true for most of that vintage. Chrysler Airtemp, Carrier, Fedders, GE, and I can remember Vornado too. You could keep sides of beef in the living room or wherever these were installed.

I can remember my friend's house had a Vornado in their kitchen. Family of 8, and Mrs. Natale would be cooking away in the middle of the summer on a Gas Range and you almost needed a sweatshirt to sit in that kitchen.

And that was during a New Jersey summer.

Reply 30 and 32 - PhilR

Hey Phil - I wouldn't mind but two problems - back just healing and a torn bicep tendon(happened different times). It's two hours from us, roughly. I like A/C's - even if I can't use one here or at the house in Michigan.
I really like that one reply#30, too. Sorry I couldn't help you out.

Don't worry, I didn't want you to grab it for me! I already have quite a few that I found closer to the Canadian border (still searching for one of those Canadian models!)  See the wanted ad I placed a few days ago on Kijiji!

As I expected, 0 replies so far! But I thought it was worth a try. After all, Paul did something similar a few years ago and I replied to his "wanted" ad on Craigslist. I didn't have what he wanted but I made a great friend and he made me subscribe here!

Maybe I should translate that in English and post it in other cities!

Yeah, I didn't really think you were "fishing" but I was equally offering if all else was good(physical condition).
Sure, post in English - never hurts to try...unlike lifting tonnage, sometimes. LOL. :-)

I have one just like the last one that Martin got for me last year. It works great and I like the way it blows cold air through the front grille. Because the air is blown by a fan through the evaporator behind that large opening, the air draft isn't too strong and the air that gets out seems very cold.

Do Older Window A/Cs Blow Colder Air

Not Necessarily, A/Cs that cool the air 20 or slightly more degrees per pass are generally MUCH LESS efficient and yes most older A/Cs are less efficient when it comes to running cost, many older A/Cs cost twice to as much as three times as much to run.

BUT there were quite a few Hi Efficiency A/Cs dating back to the 1950s and earlier and like modern units these A/Cs usually cooled the air passing through only 10-15 degrees per pass. These more efficient A/Cs not only produced a more comfortable room by not blasting out such cold air but lasted much longer than low efficiency units with over-sized compressors that ran high head pressures with undersized condensers.

Like inefficient frost-free refs from the 60s-the 70s, low efficiency window and central A/Cs that were actually used a lot did not last nearly as long, and while it is fun to turn on these older A/Cs and feel the frigid air blasting out it is like being obese and eating fried food and fatty red meats all day, it does not last.

We have a collection of about 10 classic A/Cs at the warehouse that includes both hi and low efficiency models.

John,

I didn't mean this a/c was being efficient or that it felt like it was producing colder than modern units as a lot of people like to say about vintage units...

In fact, there are even more inefficient air conditioners but this one is still far from being efficient with an EER of 6.

I have an oversized 12600 BTU air conditioner from 1974 that uses almost the same wattage as this 7800 BTU from 1967 but I like how the cooled air comes out on the 1967, being blown through the evaporator by a small low-CFM fan with blades instead of being pulled through the evaporator by a powerful squirrel-cage blower.

On low speed, it almost feels like you're staying in front of a freezer door that you just opened. Almost no draft. That's what I like about it!

See the tags on both units... The 1967 air conditioner (photos #1-2) has EER of 6 and the 1974 air conditioner (#3-4) has an EER of 9.6.  I also have a GE Carry Cool air conditioner from 1983 (#5-6) with an EER of 6.4 and a relatively large 15,000 BTU Montgomery Ward air conditioner from the mid-1970s with an EER of 5.4 (#7)...
