Rats!

Oh I'd love to have these. I was just saying to PhilR the other day how difficult it is to find Rollermatics and this one is a RapidDry. How do you buy from Estate Sales when they're not within driving distance?

Ken, isn't yours exactly the same? WIN? I'd love to find a set like that around here!

I hope it goes to someone who likes them!

These look like the last of the solid tub Deep Action, not Jet Cone agitator models. My Aunt Margaret had the dryer with a SQ twitub until she needed surgery. Then, she sold the SQ and bought a Frigidaire Gold Crown because she knew I recomended it. She replaced that in 1998 wit a Maytag pair and redid her kitchen in all GE appliances. Those were sold after her son died and her husband had already passed. She now lives in northern Florida.

Those are some rare machines that anybody would cherish if they got them. You don't see too many Frigidaire's with the offset timer control anymore.

John- Good luck in trying to get them. I hope everything pans out for you and you end up being the lucky recipient!

Of course, keep us posted!

No, Phil, one of mine is similar but:

a. It came to me broken, and I've been trying to harvest parts out of it.

b. It's white

c. It's not a programmed machine; I don't like programmed machines, but these are in much better condition.

If I found a pair like these in good condition, I'd use them as daily drivers. IMHO Rapidry Rollermatics were as close as top-loaders came, in the '60's, to today's HE machines: very efficient with water usage and fast spin.

Chad, Thanks again for posting!

John,

Best of luck getting these. I have rarely seen any OLD or vintage washers and dryers on here honestly. The majority of machines people sell are Whirlpool Kenmore direct drives, followed up by Maytags (pre-Whilpool). I just happened to look at the sale, searching for vintage vacuums. And voila there they were...

The sad part about buying for estate sales in general, is that usually (around me anyway here in Michigan) the washers and dryers aren't part of said sale. They are usually being left for the sale of the home to occur, and more times often than not, they are just standard landfill fodder, and nothing as unique and uncommon as these were. PLUS, if your not there jonny-on-the-spot, they could be lost to scrappers, or at best a family of 19 needing a set for their wash that quickly ruins such an old machine.

And, RARELY do they offer any type of shipping arrangements either. It's either C.O.D or nothing...

Hope to see some beautiful pics of this set soon in your home!!!

Chad

Looks to be one of the very last solid tub rapidry machines. That last picture of the white one is exactly the set I had for many years that Robert & Greg got about 10 or so years ago. Damn good machines!

Michigan

"....there's gold in them thar hills...." Michigan still has major great finds. Last year I drove to Michigan to get a pair of Poppy Red 1-18s, at midnight in a dark cold field, also discovered on AW. They were in great condition, had been used in someone's vacation home, very low usage. When I view all the postings on AW, I'm amazed at all that yet remains to be discovered in that area. Just hoping things work out. And yes, I totally agree with the challenges of Estate Sale issues - as it usually works like that in my area too. I'm praying these don't go to a shredder or worse - an unappreciative individual that will overload them and destroy.

Much thanks - Chad - Bruce - Phil for the words of encouragement!

Didn't Get Them

The Estate Sale representative had told me they could not sell to me prior to Thursday. She instructed me by text message to call back on Thursday afternoon, when she could sell them to me over the phone. I called several times today with no answer. After trying the alternate phone number on their website, was told by another rep that I should have called at 9:05 am and informed that they were sold. After explaining the instructions I'd received from his company, he apologized saying they'd been very busy.

Hope someone got them who will take care of them.

Maybe another time.

Darn

I was literally just getting ready to send this message asking if anyone had gone to get them. Too bad. If someone hadn't gone to get them, I was going to call a family member nearby (in Huntsville) and asked them to go see if they could pick them up. Too bad...

I just came from the estate sale and saw the units in person. They had a tag that said sold to whoever and had paid over the phone

They had them marked 375.00.They had some other pretty good stuff but the boatload of vintage tupperware upstairs was not for sale yet. I thought I had slipped into a time warp at the Woolworth with all he new in the box never opened kitchen appliances and whatnots in harvest gold and avocado. I ended up getting was a qt of lindane for a dollar and figure I will save my money for some tupperware

Sold over the telehone

Likely means a member and or at least someone out of the area nabbed the set. Oldskoll am so sad I could die for you...

Find when it comes to estate sales dealing with those running such events can be dicey. When something is truly wanted often best to show up first thing and or make first contact via telephone. I personally start dialing a few minutes before opening time regardless of what am told. Pushy? Perhaps but have found with these things the right hand often does not know what the left is doing. One person says one thing and someone else turns around and does something else.

These sellers obviously weren't that "busy" someone else got in a telephone order earlier that day.

In the end it comes down to the same thing each time really; by listing things here in the group we are broadcasting it for God and the world to see. There are so many "silent" viewers and or members that you don't know do you?

Appreciate the concern!

Not to worry. I have the texts of the agreed upon price and exact instructions of when to call and what to do, no confusion on my end. But when life closes one door, guaranteed, there's another that will open. Would have loved to have gotten them, but it's okay. God knows the future better than I know the past. He evidently has something better in store. It's my responsibility to keep a good attitude and wait till they show up. There's so many great people on this web site that I've come to know, which has been a far greater blessing than all the appliances accumulated.

As a buddy of mine says, "I'm good!", interpreted, it's okay, and I'm okay with it.

Much appreciation to all!

Launderess - I envy your way with words!

So Laundress,

It sounds like the most desirable outcome from posting ads, according to you, is that someone YOU KNOW, buys them.

But if other members, who you may not know yet, gets them, that is a problem. You realize that if other members get machines, there's a good chance they will be cherished, be preserved, "displayed", and they may be come available for sale or trade again.

What if no one in the group knew of the sale, and they were bought for $50 by the ubiquitous property owner planning to put them in a rental unit (where it is highly unlikely any of us will ever see them AGAIN)?

@delaneymeegan

How dare you.

Unlike yourself one has been a member of this group for several years, not the weeks you have been around and seen this film before. Far too many times a member has expressed interest in something only to be beaten to the post. In a majority of cases we never find out who or whom purchases these things nor to we hear about them again, ever.

No I tell at lie; in few of the more bold faced cheek examples such persons pulled a fast one only to find the item or items did not suit (inoperable, damaged during shipping, paid more than ought....) then they come back here offering the item for sale as if butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. Thinking we've never see the thing before. Worse they want *MORE* than they paid to recover associated costs.

Other person's morals aren't my concern, thank goodness. It is a free country and so forth, but that does not make everything right.

Furthermore no where in one's post did one say things should be purchase by those personally known. However do have an issue with the increasing numbers who either lurk about for information but do not participate and or treat the place as a source of free repair advice. As merely a paid subscriber can only voice a (reluctant) opinion. But if am going to be attacked perhaps shall join the long (and very sad) list of the old crowd now long absent.

It was me

I purchased them over the phone yesterday morning... I have never owned a Frigidaire washer before.. I have been waiting for years to actually find one. I love these washers, but dont know much about them. Can any of you guys give any tips to maintain them.

Treasures....

Glad to know they are safe with an AW member and won't be abused by those who wouldn't recognize their worth!

While I'm not the "repair" guy type, I'm sure there are others who can advise of maintenance and repair issues.

Best wishes.
John - "oldskool"

Ebay or CL?

I wonder if and where and for how much they'll show up for a quick flip?

Someone may think they have a money maker on their hands...
