Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Coffee-Table story

Some years ago my everyday dryer broke (GE/1980's) and it was time to buy another. I waited a long time for a sale and finally found a fun one. The nearby furniture dealer who had been in business for about 70 years was closing. ALL STUFF MUST GO!
... and so I went. I almost peed in my pants. Everything that they couldn't sell for over fifty years was out in front. Oh yeah, I bought a new CROSLEY/NORGE dryer and was happy. Some of the many items for sale were:
1970's, 1980's GE and Sylvania solid=state color-tvs. Some with ULTRASONIC remote.
A new-in-the-box PHILCO 1966 stereo console. Running. 6' long. VM changer.
Sunbeam vacuums and small appliances
Crosley Fridges (all 1980-1990 vintage)
A Norge washer in coppertone. (Didn't buy, and kicking myself to this day)
A 1976 modern Admiral pedestal 19" b&w TV black and rosewood console. (BOUGHT IT).
NEW-IN -BOX 1964 GE shoe shiner (bought).
And lots of odd, unmatched furniture.
Was looking through the furniture and saw a vintage kidney-shaped coffeetable. It had a sticker on it. I knelt down to look and much to my shock it said,
"AS SEEN ON QUEEN-FOR-A-DAY"
I wanted the table only for the sticker.
The price was good. Did I buy? No. Do I regret that decision. YES!
That newer CROSLEY-NORGE dryer was sold with the old house. That was a nice dryer and worked quite well.
... As a sidenote.... After I dumped that GE gas dryer my gas bills PLUMMETTED. Truly I didn't know the scope of its problems. I guesstimated that the new CROSLEY dryer paid for itself in just about 3 years. That dryer wasn't leaking gas but it certainly was a gas-a-holic! The Crosley electric dryer used so little energy my electric bill barely changed.

These look like nice all-wood tables. If you get any, get the nice ones.

I found some all-wood blonde tables (formica tops) at an antiques store. I wasn't going to look in the basement, but I'm sure glad I did! They go great in the TV room. At that same store, but a year later, I found a nice danish-modern blonde table and added it to the set.

There are some retro tables that are NOT as good. For instance, the ones made of pressed particle board. I bought a pair like that, but ONLY because they were cheap enough. $7.99 each at Goodwill. For that price, I couldn't leave 'em. But the laminate tops have a slight haze on them, no matter what I clean them with or how often. They look good in the front room until I find some good quality all-wood tables.

I have old department store end step tables I bought years ago, they were refinished once. They're traditional mahogany colored, and might have Micarta inlays on the bottom parts. I just know they're not finished wood. The coffee table is similar, it has a fake leather insert and little wheels on the legs, and a shelf underneath. The stuff is sturdy but cheap, whole thing cost a little more than $45.00.

I have a Bassett walnut step table too, for the little room. It needs the glass ring on top fixed, I have the stuff for it.
I love all that blonde furniture, the next door neighbors had a killer blonde diningroom set, which I imagine was also steeped in years of cigarette stain, since they both smoked like chimneys. I would love to know where it went, it wasn't junk, smoke or not.
