<3 Your Kitchen!

I'd die for a kitchen like that. I'm trying to acheive a 60's/70's look with my wash house.

Those Colston dishwashers are cute. Sold in Ireland too by any chance?

James.

Perfect in every way!  Even the curtains at the window match!   I prefer a kitchen with loads of character and I would feel instantly at-home in yours.  Thank you so much for sharing.   And, that Colston is quite amazing too!

Richard--

Is that avocado Hoover a Miele? It looks like a Miele, but can't tell for sure.

I always love it when you post pictures of your kitchen. Is the grill/broiler(US) also New World? I really like the waist high broiler/grill on my new Whirlpool gas cooker/stove.

At first, I thought your microwave was a television.

Yes the Colston dishwahers were sold in Ireland as well, my mother had a similar but a bit more stylish 303 model (in NI) and a former partner's sister had a floorstanding standing model (in Cork) - badged and probably built by Ariston - mid 70s model it was of conventional desugn rather than having the single tube.

Lawerence,
The avocado Hoover is, in fact, an Electrolux 90 and a very nice example it is too. Post war European and Australian Electroluxes were completely different from US models. This TOL model ran from around 1964 to 1968, and created a whole new upper segment to the UK cannister market.

thanks

Hi thank you all, James the kitchen was done very much on the "cheap" so to speak i had spent 6 months renovating my house before i could move in (my 1st home), i knew i didn't want a regular kitchen , i then got the cabinets of a kitchen fitter friend who removed them from a house in Carlisle. They are dated around 1959. The sink unit had a cupboard to the left of the sink which i carefully cut off and made a cupboard out of next to the fridge. The ones either side of the cooker were in fact one unit joined together and again i cut it in two. The wall units were in my house originally in the old small kitchen. At the same time i stumbled upon the cooker at a new kitchen shop when looking for ideas and bought it for £20. ( i used it for 10 years before getting it serviced to find it had 10 gas leaks!!, its now gas tight!) And about the same time i bought the Bendix off ebay for about £80 and had to collect it from Leeds. It had never been installed and sat in a pantry since being delivered in the mid 60's. The box of Skip soap powder is the one that came free with it inside the drum!

Originally i got cheap white work tops from B&Q ( a uk version like home depot) and up graded them 2 years ago with boomerang pattern on , the tiles and floor tiles were all cheap versions again from B&Q. The curtains were made from a scrap of fabric from IKEA.

Originally i had a different fridge and bought this one about 5 years ago £40, and the kitchen table belongs to a friend who lives in Australia ( and says she'll have it back if she ever moves home!)

The cupboards were stripped and re sprayed in Ford transit light blue by a car repair shop and my Mam painted all the carcasses by hand ( much to her dismay who longed me to but a nice IKEA kitchen).

The colston is english made so i would think it was sold in Ireland check out ebay Ireland for advert from newspapers.

The Hoover is in fact an electrolux model 90 from 1966 with cord rewind disposable bags and whistle function when full

i splurged a bit on this and paid £100.

The microwave is a modern whirlpool one but sort of fits in. I did have a Bendix super 12 dishwasher but that broke down so now have a beko one for every day.

Other bits and pieces include Kenwood Mixer, blender, Morphy richard toaster, Russell Hobbs kettle sunbeam mixer and fry pan, hoover and morphy richard irons.

As a remember it from my mothers machine, these actually wash crockery quite well, the big let down with them was the ability to wash pans, casseroles etc. as the only place really for the to go is on the right hand side of the upper rack. The other thing is that these were designed to sit on the drainer and drain into the sink, so although there is a pump it is not all that strong. My mum had her 303 built in under the work top after my parents moved and there was virtually no standpipe on the drain at all.

A great find from the collectable point of view, but not so practical in practice. Have you spotted that Miele G50 dishwasher thats come up on ebay? That might be an interesting option for your kitchen, and as you have started collecting dishwashers ........ LOLOLOLOL

wahey it works!!!

i plucked up courage to attach a plug and plug it in and it ran fine very quiet. The motor drives the timer and levers and cables operates fill and drain valves . Turning the pulley by hand had left the machine in mid cycle. I then manually filled it with water and switched on whoosh it ran great, the drain valve opened and i refilled it twice. It drained and ran a drying cycle which is the air blown in from the motor, and it stopped. So i haven't tried the inlet valve as the only thing wrong with it i can see is that it leaks around the door, the seal is perished. i am uploading a quick video to show my cling film rescue to the dripping water.

The internal filter did its job and collected a mass of crud left in the machine !

So it could be a working vintage machine !

Spin Tube Dishwasher, congratulations Richard, very interesting machines, they do work pretty well, the force from the large pump is tremendous, just that all the cork seals and pipes on mine had pretty much rotted and need replacing!!

Its definately a strip down and replace job, there was more water flowing outside than inside me thinks, have you tried yours yet??, was never sure wether the fine filter acts as the detergent dispenser as well for the powder etc..,

hi Mike

do you have any pics of yours as i think mine may be a bit later, it has a top spray flume but i think it may have a broken top? also i noticed in the centre of the top rack is a hook perhaps for a detergent cup? does anyone have instructions ?

Hope you're well

Richard

W O W!

When I asked for a peak at your kitchen I had no idea it was going to look like that! It is just amazing - i adore the floor tiles and those wall cabinets with the frosted glass sliding doors remind me of my Mum's kichen when I was very small. I reckon I would sleep in there if it was mine!!! Thanks for the visual feast!

LOVE your kitchen Ricky!! I have similar taste as you, although I am more 60's than 50's. Luckily I live in a 60's high rise and already have the vintage fitted cupboards, round sink with supataps, electric laundry drying cupboard... All original from when the block was built. I remember seeing one of those Colston dishwashers in the kitchen of sheltered accomodation block my nana lived in before she died, it was never used, and still had a packet of dish washing detergent from new. Shame we can't find no Colston washers around no more, used to love my mums Colston Concorde and my nans Colston Coronette. Where did you get those Marley floor tiles from? My kitchen has had the original tiles taken up as there was a flood a few years ago, although the rest of my flat has Marley tiles down (in lovely olive colour with black flecks) lol.
