Actually, that model with the remote control panel was the top of the line until the P7 models came out. I just always thought that the Mark 27 was pretty small for the only range in an average size household; better for small space constraints.

GE's Ad People....
....Were careful to make sure the Mark 27 didn't look so Spartan in advertising photos. This one has the range built into a white brick surround, and the control panel built into a butcher-block tower that's part of a butcher-block work surface.
Looks very appealing, until you stop to think what frying a batch of chicken would do to the decor....

The range itself is kinda of cute. I really can't imagine how a 5'2" housewife (even WITH heels on) could manage the controls where they are installed in the pic in the CL ad. Looks like a recipe for burns to me.
Even installed off to the side I would think it was a pain.

The wall controls were always much better when installed off to the side. My former neighbor Thelma had a built-in cooktop with such controls, and never seemed to have any problem with them, though she was about 5'6.
Another neighbor has had a Mark 27 since 1972 (on her second now), and she does quite a bit of cooking; more oven than top. She did have the old gas range in the basement that she used for canning, but got rid of it several years ago, so has used the GE for canning since.
I've always like these, but think they look better with an oven window.
