Hey guys,

I'm the one who posted about a month or so ago about the early 50's Stromberg Carlson console that I got out of the garbage. Well, I found another project and I'm trying to decide whether to buy it or not. In a local junk store I found an Emmerson console from about the same period. The radio is missing, but the record player and speaker are still there. The cabnet is in near mint condition. I'm trying to decide if I should get it or not. This guy usually gives good prices on things and I thought I could either...

a) find the emmerson radio on ebay to put inside the cabnet

b) perhaps modify the cabnet to fit the stromberg. The stromberg cabnet is proving to be a bigger project than expected, so much wood has to be replaced that it will virtually be a new cabnet if/when completed.

What do you think?
How much should I pay for it, if I did get it?

Thanks fellas.

I would say $25.00, and you could scope out eBay for an Emerson receiver to stick in like you say, I know they constantly gut beautiful working Magnavoxes to scalp more money out of everyone. I'm sure there is an Emerson out there.

Thanks for the advice on the Emerson (note the correct spelling).

Any advice for the Stromberg-Carlson. It's proving to be a bigger project than expected. Should I keep my eyes open for a new cabnet for it? Just wondering.

I suggest you gut your Stromberg-Carlson and save the insides for a good cabinet of the same series. And if you want the Emerson and have space, save it until you find the right radio-amp for it. Never know what'll turn up on eBay or local shops.
