GE Wall Refrigerator

I have pined and wished for one of these for years. I think the concept was 50 years ahead of its time. So many of the yesteryear appliances were wonderfully engineered and thought out. I am in the midst of selling my home and my kitchen is primarily contemporary and with professional appliances and equipment.

Literally and I mean honestly, literally, the one thing that people consistently ask me about is my 1940s roaster over (Westinghouse)....they are amazed with this decades old appliance and out of all of the unusual and unique things in that kitchen ( my opinion ), the roaster oven with all of the accessories with it (roaster, cabinet, griddle, rotisserie) is the thing they ask me about.

Woodtone Hotpoint?

Wow, is that Hotpoint fridge a true Woodtone? I have never seen one! It looks to be in nice shape, and if it is a repaint, they did a very nice and thorough job!

That's a 17 cu ft 3 dr cabinet circa 1928-30.

 

I'll post the link where it will get more attention.  I have had one of those once.  It felt like you were next to a bank safe.

So is the compressor unit newer than the cabinet? That compressor looks like the later "bread box" unit that had a condenser fan.

The flat top units were all made in the 1940's to replace the older units.  That's an older cabinet with the wood breaker strips.  It would have had a DR3 unit like I have in the kitchen.

 

Flat top units run great, but lack the sex appeal of the round units.

That refrigerator looks to be a mid 50's model, and would have been available in Hotpoint's Woodland Brown color. This color was offered at the time that Hotpoint's color selection was White, Coral Pink, Sunburst Yellow, Meadow Green and Seafoam Blue in addition to the Woodland Brown.

I'm not sure when they switched to Woodtone Brown (GE color), but think it was before 1960. Modifications to the Pink and Yellow were also made at that time, and Meadow Green and Seafoam Blue were replaced by Turquoise.

Yes, I was referring to that Hotpoint fridge in the other thread... I don't know how I got the reply into the wrong thread!

What a neat and rare fridge... the early color fridges didn't seem to either sell as well or maybe just didn't survive as well as the early color ranges... so you very rarely see them. And Woodland and Woodtone colors are even more rare than the pink/turquoise/yellows!
