I'm not certain how these worked, but you know GE - they LOVED those foot pedals. I don't think they used the pedals in 1954 and 1955, but they did in 1956 and 1957. And you are correct in that they did not replace the mechanical latches until 1956 with the magnets.

" GE Americana Vintage Stove/Range $150.00. Avocado range/stove with double oven. This electric range is a 1973 GE Americana. It is unique in that it has two ovens. A regular-sized one on the bottom and smaller one on the top. Both ovens have a broiler function. There is a clock with oven timer built in on the panel to the right of the of the top oven. At the top is a pop-out hood with an exhaust fan that vents out the top to a flue.
