Vintage GE range at Habitat for Humanity Restore

Poked my head in as they sometimes get a gem in and saw this. $30

 

Sorry for the pics. Taken with my iPad and didn't look like it posted sideways on it. Now that I'm on the desktop, I see how it looks. Gotta figure that out...

Do they have that dirty old thing out on the sales floor?

At our Restore all appliances go directly into the shop and are tested and thoroughly cleaned up. The guys will do minor repairs only. If it needs major repairs it's scrapped. Only gas appliances aren't tested but they're cleaned up good and a sign on them says they're not tested.

Yup, It was on the sales floor with a pretty little green sticker saying $30. For that, I'm sure SOMEBODY will buy it. Most likely someone who just visited AntiqueRanges.com and wll think all it needs is a good cleaning and it can be flipped for $1-2,000...

That range dates from 1954, the last year that GE had the porcelain evenizer over the Calrod bake elements and the year for those special cast dials. John said there was too much heated mass for baking and they had trouble with over browning on the bottoms of things. I have the fully tricked out 24" version of this range, model J 245 with light and clock that looks like brand new. A man was selling it because the woman he was marrying said that she had to have something more modern to cook on. Poor man, obviously a slave to testosterone. The neat thing about mine is that the red GE medallion in between the words General Electric is the oven indicator light to show when the oven elements are on! A separate rectangular light above it lights up if a surface unit is on--how deluxe!. [this post was last edited: 1/26/2013-16:13]

Check out the interesting air conditioner to the right of the range, the cord appears to come out of the top of the unit.

Hans! It's not an A/C unit, but an over the range micro.
