My '59 Philco also has a spring loaded lid, which makes the lid seem like it weighs next to nothing to open.

Great to know. As a kid, I was impressed with the Norge "weightless" lids hanging in mid air, neither all the way open nor crashing closed.

Man, this is why I wish I wasn’t born in the late 2000’s, these are so cool, and all I grew up with were those ‘HE’ washers, not a lot of vintage appliances
