vintage MAYTAG WASHER & ELECTRIC DRYER - $125 (anderson)

First off- CONGRATULATIONS TO STEPHANIE---YAY!!!
Now just to get a little clarification for myself. Button setup I see left to right-
4 speed- normal wash, normal spin, gentle wash, gentle spin
5 temps.- 3 wash (hot, warm, cold), 2 rinse (warm and cold)
4 water level- small, medium, normal, and super? (not sure how they are marked)
If this had been a suds model, I know those two buttons would be with the speed group. Would it still be a 806 or would that make it a 808?
I'm just trying to get the configuration down in my head since there are so many different variables between them.

but if it were a suds-saver model, it would then be a model A806s.
(i think?).

sounds like you're in the same boat as me, when it comes to learning (with the confusing model numbers) LOL.....
i'm still learning. but the ones i am getting good at knowing are the ones with the 2 speed motors, cuz i would want a "GENTLE" agitation.
as for your question, if there is an 808 washer;
no, i don't think there is an 808 washer to match the 808 dryer. the matching washer for the 808 dryer would be the 806 washer (that i know).
but like i said, i am still learning too. so, i could be wrong here. and if i am, it wouldn't be the first time.)

there might have been information on the different dryer models, that someone could have posted on here. i'm thinking there might have been, but since i wasn't really looking for a dryer (cuz we don't have the room for another dryer at this time) i didn't really pay much attention to that information. another reason too is that i hang my clothes outside, on the clothesline to dry. so, i'm not really looking for a dryer at the moment.
so, if there was information on the different dryer models, i didn't bookmark that information.

They are back home safe and sound...
I have the washer and dryer!! They are sitting in the garage as we speak.
They weren't exactly as minty as they looked in the CL pics, but they will clean up nicely. There's nothing that a little TLC can't fix!! Just preliminary findings: the dryer is missing the light lens inside the drum, and the cover plate for the side vent option is missing. The dryer cord will need replacing, it's cracked and showing bare wires. I plugged the washer in and the console lights up, although it's dim and slow to come on. I already figured those lights would need some work. I got the washer to spin, but it isn't hooked up to water in the garage so I can't test it much more right now. Couldn't test the dryer, no way to plug it in until I get it in the laundry room. The sticker is still on the top of the washer from where it was originally bought. Someone wrote 10/18/76 on it. Lots of pics are soon to follow!! Thanks to everyone for cheering me on!! I'm so grateful to get them!

I've been watching this thread and I wanted to congratulate you on a beautiful set. I've wanted an 806 for a while now but the drive distances were always too great. May you have many sudsy afternoons making the world a cleaner place.
PS, when you get them set up, spend five minutes and gratuitously press all the buttons over and over again to get it out of your system.

After a bit of cleaning up...
I just could not resist showing them a little love and welcoming them into the family!!! Gave them a quick superficial cleaning. The Sunglow paint is PERFECT. There's not a bit of it missing and it doesn't look thin anywhere, either. I'm gonna keep an eye out for a timer dial face for the washer.

i'm soooo happy that you finally got them home!!! and i can't believe how you got them so clean & sparkly!!! the chrome trim looks really good on the control panels, no pitting at all, that i can see!!!
THEY LOOK GREAT!!!
as for how to remove the agitator, your going to have to reach down into the washtub and grab the agitator by the bottom, with your fingers going underneath the agitator. once you've got a good hold of the bottom of the agitator, give it a strong pull straight up. now, becareful that you don't hit yourself with the top of the agitator when your pulling up on it.
if it doesn't pop up & off easily, you may need to fill the washer with boiling water like i had to. and let it agitate with the HOT water for about 10 or 20 minutes. then, you drain the HOT water out and once the washer is empty, reach down into the washtub and grab hold of the agitator again, with your fingers under the bottom of the agitator and pull up.
keep us updated so that i/we can share in your excitement & enjoyment of your new vintage 806 washer & 808 dryer!!!

Removing the agitator...
Look along the base of the agitator. The 'newer' agitators have a 1/4" set screw. The older ones pop on and off.

according to your washer's serial number, it was made:
September of 1976.
the dryer's serial number is harder to make out the 2 letters. but it seems it is also from 1976, if the first letter is a Y. but i can't make out the last letter, A or L???

I went to Lowes today to get a drain hose, stainless fill hoses and a couple florescent bulbs for them. The young guy that worked in Appliances asked me what my set was. I told him 1976 Maytags. He looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I were serious. I told him yes, to which he replied, "we don't carry anything for anything that old." I told him I would find what I needed without him, and I did. It's a shame for one to be so unprofessional and ignorant.
On a side note, the agitator popped right off!

Hippiedoll: Check at an Automotive Shop for a hose
I needed to get a replacement hose for a Maytag E2LP so I brought down the old hose which I had cut so they had a clean, undeformed segment to measure and asked them to match it. Tell them it's a non-automotive, unpressurized application. O'Reilly was able to supply a replacement in a few minutes.

I got a 10' one at Lowes, I haven't put it on yet because I'm not to that point yet. I don't think those Maytags take a special one... Someone please let me know if I'm wrong.
Glad to see you got them home safe and you're happy with them. They cleaned up very nicely. Many times the search is as much fun as the acquisition. It didnt take you near as long as some others search to find what they're looking for.
You never know they just may be the beginning of a collection and the Corvette might need to find other accommodations...

The Corvette will always be my pride and joy. Now I just gotta get this set finished up and in the laundry room! My laundry room is tiny and very hard to get machines in and out of, so I want to make sure I restore them right before they go back in. I just stand and stare at them sitting in my garage. Is there a way I can trick the washer and fill/run it in my driveway before I put it in the room?
