what a beaut!!!

i can't thank you enough for posting this craigslist find!!!

i just called the seller but they didn't answer. so i left a message with my name & number & mentioned that i am interested in the maytag washer. so, hopefully i hear back from them soon. i'm hoping to be able to go pick it up tomorrow!!!

keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

thank you for posting this ad ovrphil!

and thank you for the "heads-up" ken!!!

lots of love,
christina

just made contact with seller...

seller said that she is not the original owner of the washer. she said she bought it at a yard sale. and there is no owner's manual. which isn't that big of a deal to me anyways. i mean, i have & use my A208 with no problems & didn't have the owner's manual either.

and plus, looking at the picture of the dial, it doesn't seem to get any simpler!!! one side is the washing cycle and the other side is the soaking cycle, which goes all the way up to 20 minutes!!! i don't think i would use the soaking cycle, but i'll never say never.....

i guess for the speed buttons, you can push in normal or gentle and also have the permanent press button pushed in or not? i don't know if i would use the permanent press button or not though??
hmmmmm......

i asked the seller what model this maytag was & am waiting to hear back from her when she gets home. but the model number isn't too important to me. what is important is the washtub size and the wash cycle options. which seems perfect for me. i'm just curious to find out the model number!!!

The CL post has been deleted!

Looks like Christina got herself a dream machine!

Hazarding a guess re: the fabric button speed combos.  Regular (or button on the left) = normal/normal, Permanent Press = normal/slow, and Delicate (or button on the right) = slow/slow.

Fabric Matic

My aunt bought this washer (in white) to replace a TOL late 60's Speed Queen solid tub washer.  For whatever reason, she never bonded with her Maytag and replaced it with an TOL Amana when they came out a handful of years later.

It had only a single speed motor and the cycle was modified by the buttons.  I can't remember exactly how other than intermittent agitation for delicate and perhaps the cool-down spray on Perm Press.  Mark will know :-)

craigslist deleted.....

i haven't exactly closed the deal with the seller just yet. i just told her that i was interested in it and was planning to come look at it tomorrow. so HOPEFULLY, she deleted the posting because i expressed interest in this washer!!!

keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

thanks again for alerting me to this maytag. i hope she deleted the craigslist posting because of me!!!

i just heard from the seller...

she deleted the listing because somebody came to look at it and they are going to take it. so, i guess it wasn't meant to be.

oh well, i'll just look at it as, it wasn't meant to be.....

somebody came to look at it and they are going to take it.

I've learned that one the hard way= First come, first served.

An "appointment" to see a washer (or anything for sale) means little. If you really want it drop it everything and get over there ASAP.

one speed maytag.....

well, although i kinda felt heavy-hearted that i didn't end up getting this maytag in phoenix, it makes me feel a little better about not getting it, knowing that it was a single speed washer. as what i'm really wanting to get is definitely a 2 speed for the delictate cycle.

so, these messages do make me feel a little better
:o)

like i said, it just wasn't meant to be....
;o)

very true....

digapony, very true....

but for some reason, it just didn't happen for me. and i believe i'm gonna find the "right" maytag out there when the time is right.

as for now, i'll keep using & enjoying my maytag A208. so, it's not all that bad, that i didn't get the one up in phoenix. cuz i still have this one here!
;o)

hippiedoll- I just read this for the first time- so you're welcome and I'm sorry it wasn't a two speed. Hope something else comes up - usually does.

Phil

Don't worry, Sweetheart. Your Karma will bring forth a two-speed Maytag before you know it. This wasn't the right one. Keep the faith, Dear.

I was a little worried that it might be a one-speed machine if my speculation about the fabric buttons was incorrect -- which it was.

Single speed would be a deal breaker for me.

You were spared some time and trouble.  The right machine will find its way to you.

ovrphil, mickeyd, rp2813...

ovrphil:

don't be sorry it wasn't a 2-speed. it happens. i just greatly appreciate the post you made. cuz i didn't know myself. and at least we got to find out before i actually drove all the way to phoenix!!
hm hm....
;o)

mickeyd:

thank you love. those are my thoughts exactly too!!!
:o)

rp2813:

a single speed is a same deal breake, for me too!! and yes, i was definitely spared time, trouble, AND GAS for the trip to phoenix!! LOL....
;oD

i know i'm going to find my extra large load, 2-speed maytag with the exact choice options that i want real soon. especially with all the help from you great members here!!! i mean, the more eyes, the better the chances!! and with the wealth of knowledge that you all possess here, you can help me pick the right maytag. so far, i think the maytage i am really wanting is the A608. that is the washer that has the exact same options as my GA208. if i remember correctly, i think the A606 was the other model number that also was a 2-speed and had the extra large load & similar choice options. kenmore71 posted the control panels & told me which they were but i'm pretty sure it was the A606 & A608. the difference being that the A606 only had 3 wash water temperature choices that i think only had cold water rinses. and the A608 had the temperature choice of hot & warm rinse as an extra option (if i remember correctly??).

sorry for the long message, but i tend to get lengthy when i'm interested in what i'm writing about.

lots of love,
hippiedoll/christina :o)
