Just bought this set of Vintage Pyrex off of Ebay. It is the Shadow Iris pattern. I don't remember Shadow Iris looking like this since my Mom has the whole set...any thoughts? Ideas? The seller has informed me it is stamped England on the bottom.Does anyone collect vintage pyrex and corningware? I also love the old coffee pots!!

Oh, that's a very nice pattern. Do you know when it's from? I don't remember this one.

I have no kitchen right now, so most of my Pyrex and Corning is in storage, crammed in any available space all over the basement. I have way too much - of everything - as you can see, but it keeps following me home. Not pictured is the Corning Centura dinnerware and several sets of Pyrex bowls & bakeware.

Here are a couple of pics of the storage closet downstairs with stacks of Corning Ware, crammed in with the rest of my kitchen stuff and some NOS irons, etc. I can't wait to get my kitchen back!

Corningware!

Hi Greg,
I have corning ware simular to this. I don't have those longer pieces, they are hard to come by. This is a real great find.

I prefer the wheat pattern....

It's so much more butch ;-)

(I totally ripped off the picture from eBay, by the way. My stupid camera's stupid battery is dead, or you could see my ridiculously overdone collection.)

Oh, Shane!

That is a LOVELY pattern!

Greg...wow! You have almost enough Corningware.

Dan...I have not seen the Wheat pattern this side of the Continental Divide, thanks again for sharing it.

My latest Corning snag was a two cup deep casserole. Blue Cornflower, using it a lot.

Thanks for sharing these pictures!

Thanks Maytagbear

I'm excited to get it..

Dan..I have never seen the "wheat pattern" before. Your right, it is quite "butch" LOL

Shane that is such a beautiful pattern, one that I have never seen before. Greg, you know you can't stop collecting until you have that 100th place-setting! (ducking and running)

Terry, you'd better duck and run, you and Roger have contributed to the "problem" LOL. I think I have enough of the all-white Coupe and Cornflower Centura that I could serve dinner for 48 or with the salad plates, buffet for 96 so I have a LONG way to go before I have 100 full place settings! We'll see lots of it in September at the wash-in/vacuum convention. I've sent leftovers home with family and friends and told them to keep the plate or toss it to get rid of some of the "less desirable" scratched pieces and that seemed to work well, I may have to try that again.

Gary, I had one of those kettles once and got rid of it because I thought it was too heavy and was on a clean-out binge - now I regret it, since I have so much more room now?? Anyway - I'm watching the sales all the time!

Pyrex Glassware...

In my experience, glass Pyrex/Corning seems to be quite resilient in the dishwasher.

I have found that the French equivalent "Arcuisine", is subject to 'glass corrosion', etching, etc., in the machine.

1975 dutch pattern

Hi Bob,

I believe that your pattern is called Friendship. I was told that Friendship was made only in 1975. It was one of there special runs. They did this quite a lot with the electric percolators. There are patterns on elec percs that you will only find on the electric perc.

I happen to have an extra electric Friendship perc that I just purchased. I am happy to offer it to you, or anyone else who would like it. I also have a few other duplicate corning electric percs (different patterns) that I don't need to hold on to. If anyone is interested just let me know :-)

Rich

COUNTRY FESTIVAL

Actually, after doing a little looking around at ebay, I've found that this pattern is actually called Country Festival.

The Friendship pattern also has birds, but it's basically an orange & white pattern.

Regardless, I'd still love to have the matching percolator.

Thanks again.

Bob

Anyone need these?

It is a light pink metal Pyrex glass divided bowl holder (inlcuded) with a copper lid. I have more pics.

This is another piece that is falling victim to my downsizing.

Oh, and I also have a 9-cup Corningware cornflower coffe perk (not electric) but with all the filer parts. Again, anyone want?

Exploding Pyrex

Hey guys, there are some very impressive collections out there. My mom has a few plain white and cornflower pieces and at least one old percolator. I always felt that Corning made a very solid and TOL percolator and thought it was a shame when they were fingered as having a problem with the handle assembly.

So for the Corning and Pyrex experts out there, I have this question stemming from a couple of recent items in the newspaper. What's the deal with Pyrex dishes exploding in the oven? Some people have apparently sworn off of Pyrex due to explosion issues. I know I would't want to clean up a mess of food and splintered glass out of my oven. Anybody have anything to offer in the way of user error or other causes for this trouble?

Exploding Pyrex

My mom moved into a house that had a dishwasher a few years ago, something she had never hda before. She had the set of 4 pirmary colored bowls. She makes a mean ham and scalloped potatoes. Well, she put it in the dishwasher and it exploded in there. :-(
Needless to say, we both handwash all Pyrex now.
I bought her a replacement yellow one off eBay and then I found a complete set of 4 for me for about $17 and an extra yellow bowl just in case. THe yellow is a great size for cookies, scalloped potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc.

While Pyrex is durable,

it still is a glass.

It most happens with thermal shock, or "butterfingers" as a second cause.

An example of thermal shock would be putting room temperature liquid into a Pyrex dish that is at oven temperature. I am sure no one here would do such a boneheaded manoeuver, but it does happen. That is "downshock," and is more common than "upshock."

Oh, and when it says "No Stovetop, No Broiler"? Believe them.

Then, there is "butterfingers." That's how I lose my Pyrex.

Fortunately, my mother being a bride of the '50s, got a LOT of Pyrex....

I love it, and Corning, and prefer to bake my Carrot Cake in a Pyrex 13x9.

When baking in Pyrex, you save energy, because of the abilty to retain heat. Should always lower the temperature by 25F. In metal, my Carrot Cake bakes at 400F. In Pyrex, 375F.

Altogether a remarkable material.

I do put mine in the dishwasher, and I have not yet lost an item from mechanical dishwashing. The unloading process, well......
