1958 Whirlpools are RARE. Literally only a few that are known to exist, only 1958 Whirlpool I’ve seen in person is my friend Tyler’s 1958 Whirlpool Imperial timeline washer at a small get together he arranged in August of 2019. Sometimes I wish there were more 1958 Whirlpools around but people were too gullible and just junked the machine over a broken belt, pump, or solenoid mechanism for the lid…wish I could go back in time to explain they would become collector’s items in the future..

Because of bearing and transmission failures after just 6-12 years of heavy family use most WP-KM BD washers were done, some did get a heavy rebuild and then lasted another maybe 4-6 years.

Our 1962 WP had bearings replaced twice, as I've mentioned in previous discussions. Bad bearings again is what led to its replacement with the LDA7800.

Bad Bearings - bad bearings
Bearing this bad news about bad bearings would make these a nice museum addition. Restoration would extend beyond 4-6 years because your museum(talking to all the guys/gals)who collect washers and dryers....you wouldn't ever wear it out. In fact, at some of our ages, this machine would last beyond our final years. Consolation? Someone will remember you bearing the weight of replacing bearings and bear in mind...we all bear the facts at automaticwasher.org.(runs and hides)
