I'd have to guess this was a mid-70s model.  Sadly, the cooktop explains why I only had one of these for a couple of years.  You just can't keep that white ceramic cooktop clean!

When I was in IT, that cooktop would be called a user error. I have had 2 Ge Profiles with white cooktops. First one used it for 5 years then we sold the house and moved to FLorida. I have had this one for 8 years now, use it a few times a day pretty much everyday. I have made potatoes that have bolied over and tomato sauce also that have made the cooktop brown like that picture. A little bon-ami cleanser and the green 3M sponge and it come right off. I have no scratches or stains on mine. Are the older tops made of a differnet material?

Cooktops of the mid 70's were of a  different material, maybe a bit harder to keep clean?

They must have been! Mine was a Bélanger (which I believe was made by Tappan) and it was awful.  Maybe the true Corning models may have been better.... 

However, in the early 00's, we had a Whirlpool Gold in our apartment in Montreal and it was nowhere near as bad to keep clean.  This one was a black finish, compared to the white of the ol' Bélanger.
