That is the first SQ -- weren't they late to the automatic game, so it isn't 1947, but close...... I had one, but sold it to Ted (bless his heart)... The tub was porcelain, and the agitator was also replaced with a newer black plastic number... The badge on the front was missing also... Ted also has the matching SS top dryer (from John Lefever)...

Speed Queen was late to the automatic game - like 51-52'ish. I have the service manual for this machine model A10-A11 and it shows single motor, porcelain tub. It will be interesting to see what this washer has... In just a few minutes

WOW I always thought this would be a great find, but I finely gave up hoping to find one and sold the matching dryer [ that Bob in Cleveland gave me to ] Ted. Ted is reducing inventory  and may want to sell his SQ washer or dryer.

So here it is home. Model A10 from 1951-1952, the first Speed Queen it is!

At first I thought the agitator had been replaced, but now after looking closer at doctrine, I believe the very first Speed Queen had a black bakelite agitator and porcelain tub. Who knew.

Very cool washer! I have been looking for a vintage SQ as well, but was beginning to lose hope that anymore existed. This has restored my faith! Have fun & be sure to stay up way too late playing with it!

I put it an aluminum agitator for the first wash, but now I switched it back. I do now believe that the bakelite agitator might have been the original. The machine is clearly low use and seems to work well. The timer motor needed changing the pump is leaking, but otherwise it seems to be just fine. The Fluid Drive could use some oil as well, but it washes!
