Vintage Vac Vultures and where to feed this habit...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Fred/Charlie I know you said you would be monitoring the new site and all but you know those previously referred "two old bags" well one at least are going to get in there and be bringing up Dyson no matter what the subject or thread.

Here's an example of what would happen to a thread on vintage Hoovers by Austin;

MY NEW DIAL A MATIC:

Westytoploader: Here's a pic of my new Hoover DAM circa 68
I got at the flea market for $1.99

PeteK; That's a great looking DAM you have Austing...love the colors blah blah blah..

WTBV bag #1: Oh those pieces of crap, the AirWay was far superior for its day I'd even put it on a par with my Dyson DC15.

WTBV bag #2: There you go again #1, next you'll be saying the Rainbow was better. I tested that DC15 with my dirt-meter and my Aunt Flo could whistle thru her nose more air than that piece of Dyson junk.

Veg: Love your DAM Austin...how's it for noise.

WTBV bag #1; Why don't you crawl in a hole WTBV #2 and die.

and on and on and on

No thread is safe from them.

LOL

Well....best of luck to the whole enterprise...

..."sorry Charlie" I've made up my mind -- I've seen and heard enough.

I'm not going anywhere near it, now, or ever, period. I don't need unpleasantness, or the potential for such.

Best of luck to you in the new enterprise -- sounds like you're going to need a lot of it. I've gained great satisfaction from this hobby -- I won't allow it to be ruined, or subject it to the potential.

John

oh my...

Pete: Your post is hilarious, and pretty well hits the bull's eye.
Amazing how small minded people can be!

John: I can only hope you're joking with your post. The good far outweighs the bad.
Please reconsider.
Jeff

Ummmm since I have experience being a webmaster it seems that there is a very easy solution here. If 99% of the problems are being caused by only two people, they can be warned the first time to be nice (which they won't) and on the second time they and their IP address can be banned.

Also The example above can be handled like this:

MY NEW DIAL A MATIC:

Westytoploader: Here's a pic of my new Hoover DAM circa 68
I got at the flea market for $1.99

PeteK; That's a great looking DAM you have Austing...love the colors blah blah blah..

WTBV bag #1: Post deleted by webmaster.

WTBV bag #2: Post deleted by webmaster.

Veg: Love your DAM Austin...how's it for noise.

WTBV bag #1; Post deleted by webmaster.

Unimatic1140: Wow Austin, love your new DAM (whatever the heck a DAM is).

Toggleswitch: Hot DAM Austin!

and so on...

If someone gets their posting deleted generally they don't like it and get the message real fast.

Robert I like the way you think...

Both of those old bags have been banned from my Yahoo group as well.
Zero tolerance for abuse and unkindness is a good place to start.

John I have to agree with what Robert and Jeff have said. At least 95% of the vacuum club members are really great people. The only problem with the old vacuum website was that those couple that caused all of the problems were never banned. On the new site they should be given one warning to be nice and if they aren't then "boom boom you're done". I do hope that you will reconsider, we are really a nice fun group!!! Terry

John, I hope you're not serious about not joining just because of that thread I posted above. It was meant to be comedic. Besides even if it did happen you can see it won't be tolerated. I'm still looking forward to joining even if they don't take Canadian money at par.

I'm dead serious.

But have fun guys. Starting any enterprise off with a banning policy is a bad omen. Don't worry, I ain't important, one little ole me ain't much difference.

I do sincerely wish you all the best.

I do not with to create a long drawn out thread on the issue.

That's my final statement on the matter.

Cheers!

John

Starting any enterprise off with a banning policy is a bad omen.

I couldn't disagree with you more John. Every public arena has to have some type of rules and without a way to enforce the rules, why bother then.

I've only had to ban three or four people from our site, but in doing so it prevented things from getting out of hand. We been "on the air" for over four years now and I think we've been very successful.

Anyway, congrats Austin on your new Hoover Dial-A-Matic, whatever that is ;)

I agree with Robert

Banning people is no way to start out.
5 years ago when I started Hooverland I laid the rules down from the start, and warned that anyone being unkind or abusive would be removed and never allowed back.
Since that time I have removed only two people. Most everyone gets along pretty well.

John your descision makes me very sad.

We'll He's been trying to ban me for 4 years

You're gonna be BOOM BOOM DONE mister any minute now if you keep it up!

Here have some butter.

Hmmm.....I've probably not expressed myself properly.

Robert, your comments are taken with respect and close consideration. You run one of the best sites on the 'Net, and I sincerly mean that. You really do.

That goes for you too, Jeff -- you and Robert run websites -- I don't. And Charlie has expressed a lot of enthusiasm and drive looking forward and I don't want my comments to rain on that, ok?

I must be honest with you all -- my life situation right now isn't the best and in fairness here, must say that it's nudging in to my judgement a lot these days. Stress load is a biggie. And so is fairness.

I like and respect you all, I mean that. Know that I support the positive efforts, and I'll change the Resolved status back to "Under Consideration" in deference to your experience and statments -- howzat?

Cheers,

John

Uhmmm....

Quote Robert: I think we've been very successful

Saying you've been very successful is like saying a tidal wave is damp. 'Tis good to be here.

John

John's choice

John,

Wow, a lot sure goes on around here when I go out flying for 4 days! I think I understand what you are saying and I agree with you that everyone must do what is best for them at the time. I try to keep negativity out of my life as often as possible as it does contribute to stress. (Look what I go through with just these vacuum boys)

I think the "shake out" period may be a bit ugly at times but smooth sailing ultimately lies ahead. Anytime there is a shift of direction and power within an organization or company, there is bound to be a period of............well, let's just say things may not be as pretty as we would like them and even Kirby, Dyson or Air-Way can't resolve that!

However, the good news is, as I said, once the changes that need to be made are made, we will be like the Emerald City, "Bigger and more beautiful than I ever thought!"

There is a teaching aid used in the corporate world that makes reference to how your kitchen looks in the middle of a redo----usually like a disaster site! But, with perserverance and time, once the redo is completed and the kitchen cleaned up, it is amazing at how wonderful the change is in the end and well worth the wait.

Charlie
