Interesting design

I love the good ol’ southern accent!

This design reminds me of the Maytag orbital transmission, very simple.
I agree with him, maybe there should have been a washer/spacer to help keep it from being worn.

I wonder if They brought back the orbital transmission, could they successfully make a high efficiency top loader.

Nope

All this does is some torque conversion, getting the basket to move or float during wash and lock tub and agitator during spin.

All reversing is done by the motor.
That's cause the wash algorithm relies both fast and slow strokes at different oscillation angles.

A traditional transmission will always have one fixed arc.
Speed is the only variable - and maybe pausing.
That won't work for a wash plate design.

An agitator design could work if it relies on spray rinsing to achieve water usage targets.

whirlpool/maytag

It's obvious that whirlpool/maytag have used faulty gearboxes. What are their doing to their commercial washer on the maytag lineup as far as the gearbox is concerned? Did they use oil to properly lubricate the gears?

Way underbuilt!

The splutch gear assy, is durable nylon, but the rest is junk. The mode shift sensor and acuator fail and then no agitation. There isn't much to begin with.
