ha ha have a question.. my w065 is going ching ching and has been for as long as i have had it.. its the fan wheel at the bottom of the motor that has worn loose and moves a little to much.. is there a proper way to shim it back or does anyone have an good used one??

Hi Sugar!----------

It sounds like the fan is a bit loose. When re-assembling the mechanism I always like to use a bit of "Locktite" on that long bolt holding the fan to the pump.

Of course, everyone always says to be sure and tighten that bolt up real good----and when I first did it, I crushed the (rare) black carbon seal on the pump side of the damn thing!
So one does have to be careful.

I have no experience in operating a Unimatic with a loose fan so I don't know if operating it that way for any length of time is good or bad.

I'm sure once the "Unimatic Guru's" see your question, there will be some help forthcoming.

Chris - have you ever had the pump cover off? It sounds like you might just have a loose pump screw - common with unimatics. Lay the machine in it's left side (so you don't pee oil out of the vent tube on the tranny), remove the cross-brace, support the mechanism (a gallon paint can works well) and remove the pump cover screws. Once you have removed the cover, you can see the bottom of the pump impeller and a slot-head screw in the center. This screw holds the pump impeller and the fan in place on the motor shaft - the impeller has a long "neck" that extends through the pump seal and cover and compresses against the fan to hold it tight. Remove the pump screw with a large screwdriver so as not to strip the head and put a few drops of Loctite on the threads. The pump impeller should be seated far enough up onto the fan to hold it tight.

oh i see toggle got bossy ha ha.. when i got the machine and first ran it it sounded like it does now like a ting ting ching ching noise and i could feel the fan was loose thats when i took the pump apart and off and at that time i tried to ship the fan and the spline of the motor and it worked for a little while but didnt last i think i used some sealer or something.. didnt try lock tite hum will have to take it apart again and check it out but thanks guys for the info as always steve and greg as so sweet and togg is being bossy ha ha xxxx

HA! In the business world I'm results-oriented. Here I'm just a bossy bitch. That's OK Christopher I STILL hold you in high regard and esteem. *LOL*

Calls mother:

Hello mother? THAT BRUTE. I gave him just what he wanted, bumped up his post, made sure he was not ignored, got him an answer and STILL he tossed me to the wolves. *BOO HOO SOB MOAN*

OK I'm over it, NEXT............

Yes these fans do not wear out and I've never needed new one. The problem as Greg stated above is the pump impeller screw has to be extremely tight. Over the years it has loosened. Be sure to take the screw completely out and add some blue Loctite to the threads.

Tightening the impeller screw will not break the carbon seal unless it is not seated properly, so make sure the four tangs off of the carbon seal are seated properly in the four channels in the center of the impeller.

ha ha god knows i have more than just a few loose screws.. but i guess i sort of like it that way gives me something to play with when im bored
