A "steal"? .....

AD: " Washer:
Height 33 inches
Width 23 1/2 inches
Depth 24 inches
ART. NO: 107602110
SERIAL NO: 050510519536

Dryer:
Height 33 1/2 inches
Width 23 1/2 inches
Depth 24 inches
ART. NO: 10770110
SERIAL NO: 023920136274

This is an older unit that has been used with love and care. The dryer still works. The washer needs repair. You can have the washer repaired and use the whole unit or you may like to buy it and use / sell it for parts. Either way, it's a steal at this bargain basement price. You must be able to pick up the unit yourself from this location, with care not to scratch the floors, walls, or doors. "

Not really any sort of "steal".

Craigslist is full of Asko washers and dryers both as single units and sets going for much less. More often than not if a set one or both units require some sort of repair. That does not stop sellers from asking often odd prices (such as $500 for the set above) for these units.

It is the abundance of Asko units that prompted me to instigate my posting in a different forum to find out what is the deal with Asko units.

Judging from the CL and other classified listings along with Internet postings Asko laundry products do not seem to be the most robust of machines. Certainly not on the level of say Miele or other European units.

You can find recent models from Asko on CL for very little money.

Now if someone is technically able and has access to parts then some of these units may prove to be a bargain.

What crust

Not only does the seller want to basically get someone to pay for removal of a non-working appliance, he wants care taken to mind his floors and walls in the process.

We don't know what exactly is wrong with the washer but can guess it would cost more than a few hundred to repair. I say this otherwise seller would have had the thing repaired himself.

Launderess & Louis - well said ! I'd agree that if you wanted the parts and there were enough to substantiate buying these - go for it. Otherwise, beware when the someone advises, "these are a steal" .

You have to realize that this set is for sale in an area where such large amounts of money are dealt with every day both legitimately and not at all legitimately that a great deal of a sense of reality is lost. Add to that the people who are attracted to the gaming of the largesse of the national government and you wind up with a class who not only consider themselves better than everyone else, but who are also willing to demand the sort of treatment reserved for royalty.

We had this blonde witch who worked as a department head who was dropped off every morning from her husband's Italian sports car, dressed not to the nines, but to the ninety nines and who did not let people sit down when they were called into her office for a meeting. Guess how she lost her job. She was reported for interviewing people for the position of her personal housekeeper in her government office on government time by someone she had mistreated. Who says Karma is not a bitch and does not bite with the dental endowment of a great white? When I told this to someone with a fairly faint grasp on reality, her response was that she could not understand that because they were members of both the Washington, DC and Palm Beach social registers. I consider that one of the best demonstrations of reality, rank, wealth and privilege in the National Capital Area.

Do persons looking to sell their items even bother doing any research?

CL is full of Asko laundry appliances (dishwashers as well) at often give away prices. So why would anyone pay $500 for a non-working one?

My guess is the rationale goes people are or will pay for the working dryer but seller won't separate the set. Again forcing someone to do the heavy work of removing the broken appliance from their home and paying for that kindness as well. When you consider front loading washers are often much heavier and difficult to shift than dryers it just adds more insult in injury.

Thing about Asko units of this vintage is they seem to be money pits. Once one thing goes wrong something else surely will follow. A pump here, motor there and pretty soon you've spent enough for a totally new machine.

IIRC a common fault with this series of Asko washers is that the brushes have gone (unlike Miele Asko washer seem to eat the things). From what one has read on the Internet technicans often tell customers the entire motor must be replaced instead of just fitting in new brushes. That and or some motors actually cannot just have the things swapped out at all easily.

My Creda Eco Wash Supaspeed 1000 was discarded because it needed a new set of brushes which were easy enough and cheap enough to install, especially since the motor is above the tub, not below it, but then the washer did not have a dryer attached to the top of it. If there is a dryer, it becomes a two man job and the cost goes waaay up. My Creda does not get much use now, but it has had the brushes replaced twice since I've had it. I think it is a 1990 or 1995 machine.[this post was last edited: 10/11/2015-23:33]

I had numerous models and loved all but one which, oddly enough, taken back by the seller.  As it was being moved, some idiot used the door opening to carry it and broke the hinges. The ones I had worked flawlessly and sold for over a thousand when I got bord watching them anymore. The LGs had just been introduced and I got a hard on.  So,my Asko relations were severed and to be no longer needed. Easy to repair and, my last set had the electronic touch pads and a whopping 1800rpm final spin. It also heated the wash water to boiling if needed.

Really ??

Does not want to damage the floors, walls or doors ??? the place looks like a pig pen not to mention a fire hazard, with all that close to a furnace.
