Wal-Mart and powdered laundry detergents

Yes, it has been

posted here, see thread #13900. "Liquid Detergents...."

Oh, incidentally, drhardee, one of my best women friends and her husband live in your corner of SC, in Greer. They just bought a Miele washer and a Miele dryer, and are liking them a great deal.

Kroger may be doing the same thing

The Payless on Elmwood Avenue moved to the Menard's bldg on Greenbush street so they would have room to expand

It is 3 or more times the size of the older bldg but I swear they are trimming the powder down to nothing

They have NO HE power detergent on the shelf at all

I think most retailers are doing it

powdered detergent seems to be a rapidly disappearing item, and it is more the manufacturers, I think.

Makes me sad. I have had good luck with the more expensive liquids, Tide and Wisk to name two, but sometimes a powdered detergent soothes the laundry soul.

P&G and Unilever are trying to shove liquid detergents down the consumers throat because it is easier and cheaper for them to manufacture. I find it laughable that Wal*Mart says it is doing this for environmental reasons. I wonder where all those empty plastic detergent bottles go? In the landfills!!

maybe we should start a website .....

to save powdered detergents! With all the brilliant minds here at AW.Org, I am sure we can come up with an online petition...

Powders..

Although I use both, I much prefer powders (and its better for the machine as well).

Thankfully the powder section in supermarkets over here is still pretty healthy :)

All the Target stores in my area have the Tide HE powder. They have the regular “31 load” box for $6.99, and they also have a larger box. So check there too. I have also seen it at some of the larger supermarkets, but our Wal*Mart stores don’t carry it.

They are very, very foolish to discontinue one particular product, the Tide with Bleach powder.

IMHO, that detergent is really the only powder I see in shopping carts in this neck of this woods, and it's outstanding for super-dirty laundry. I can't think of any store-bought product that is as good on mud, grime, etc., that doesn't utterly trash the clothes.

I wonder, will they also discontinue Clorox 2 powder, Calgon, etc., as well? These are fairly popular products.

I totally agree Oxy~

Tide with Bleach powder is by far a superior product. Wal*Mart will now lose me as a customer for groceries.

Walmart in Canada must be doing the same thing because a couple of days ago I went searching for Tide HE powder and there was no powder of any brand on the shelves. I just thought that perhaps the shipment hadn't come in. I went back 2 days ago and Tide HE powder was back on the shelves. I hope they don't stop carrying it. I use both liquid and powder. I have a Kenmore HE4t with the dual detergent dispensers and when the pre-wash cycle is used you have to use powder in the main cup otherwise the liquid leaks into the wash at the wrong time. I also have to use the powder when I use the delay start timer.

Horde Up the Powders!

Good thang I have several boxes of powdered detergent, borax, and all fabric bleach stored away in my closet. Nevertheless, it won't hurt to go grab some more boxes of various powders while they are still available. Then when I am finally backed into the laundry corner, I can resort to the Unilever, P&G, and other kinds of concentrated liquids.--Laundry Shark

I am still stockpiling boxes of Fab Rainforest (the only one we ever got around this area) from the Dollar Stores ($3.00 per box). At least it is the Colgate Fab, not the Phoenix
Brands Fab - which isn't even available around here anyway. Most of my supermarkets and the local WalMart have trimmed the powders to a bare minimum. A little Tide, Arm & Hammer and some Gain. Then a sea of liquids..... UGH
