Wanted: Whirlpool belt drive water level hose

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

You might have to go to a local hardware or big box hardware store and go to the plumbing department, I went to Home Depot about a month ago and picked up some vinyl hose which was the same size as the existing pressure switch hose on my Whirlpool, should work.

Sorry for the misunderstanding

Hey Sean,

Thanks for the info! I may not have been clear but I was talking about what I think is some sort of pressure chamber. I have photos of what’s left of the pipe, what part of the tub it connects to and what part the hose attaches to. Also a different kind of chamber that would work.

Oh, the pressure switch chamber. Yeah, I had to go to the plumbing section at Home Depot to fabricate a new one, definitely more beefed up than the original. Even fabricated a new piece for the recirculating filter/automatic dispensers as well. Just about all the hoses (hose from the recirculating/automatic dispensers to the pump, pump the the magic mix dispenser filter, hose from the pump guard to the pump, hose from the pressure switch chamber to the pressure switch, the hose that goes from the automatic dispensers to the recirculating filter) were fabricated from plumbing parts which came from the plumbing department at Home Depot. So far, no leaks have came from those pieces I fabricated.

Here’s the pieces I fabricated back in the fall/winter of 2021.

Had to do some tweaking in photo #2 so it would fit inside the cabinet.

That’s great work.

Thanks for that!
I’ll have to look into that. How did you go about sealing it and connecting it to the outer drum? Did you have another piece that went inside the drum and through the pipe through to the other side? Or was it sealed using something else?
Either way, I’ll be looking into fabricating something.

Thanks again.

Air dome for old belt drive whirlpool machine machines

These are still pretty readily available around the US however it’s not hard to make one.

Hi Sean, why do you have two outlets on your air dome device that you built?

If you wanna make one of these try to make it so it’s similar to the original and of course it needs to point upward. in the pictureSean has a pointing down, which would not work it would get waterlogged And not drain when the machine drains.

“Hi Sean, why do you have two outlets on your air dome device you’re built?”

Whops, should have been a little more clean and articulate about that.

The piece with the two outlets is for the automatic dispensers/lint filter, the other is for the pressure switch in photo #3.

Got this video clip in December of 2021, you’ll see the outlet with two pieces towards the end of the video.

Sean out of curiosity how are you securing those PVC pipes on the inside of the outer tub and creating a seal? Just curious because there isn't much room between the outer tub and wash basket even with the protruding dimple in the outer tub.

Hi Robert, I used a rubber gasket (believe it’s 1” to 1 1/2”), another gasket on the outside to create a seal. O-rings would probably work as well. Should have gotten a photo the other day when I had the inner tub out since I have to tighten the screws which hold the outer tub down to the baseplate.

Believe a friend in NC did something similar to fabric a new piece for the water level switch on a 1954 Whirlpool since it uses the old style of switch which is a float type of switch.

How does the new PVC pipe stay in the hole? What are you using to make a positive mechanical connection to keep the PVC pipe from vibrating out during spin? Are you just using silicone around the hole or something else? The original air domes had two little wings that fit in two slots and then turning the air dome upright into position HELD it in tight against the outer tub.....with one rubber gasket on the outside of the tub between the air dome and the outer tub.....

This is what I used, cut off the excess pvc pipe. Don’t remember the exact sizes (one was 1”, the other 2” if memory serves correctly), but this is what I used to hold the air dome assembly I fabricated along with the piece for the lint filter and automatic dispensers.

Re Reply #9

After doing some more research, it’s a pvc reducer bushed that I used to secure the air dome and automatic dispensers/lint filter piece in place to the tub.

Thanks for all your help!

I’ve managed to get the stuff to the tub sorted, so it can be used as a semi automatic machine without the heater. The switch is only required for the heater.

I’ll test tomorrow for leaks!
