That Cylinder Cleaner has a great motor wattage of 2300W but soon the maximum Wattage allowed here in the uk is to be reduced down to a maximum of 1600 Watts.

-I bet there are adapters for this problem)

Yes there are, and they are only a couple of bucks on Ebay. I bought one not long after I bought by Miele. I can now use any vacuum cleaner tools with my Miele. My favorite is a hand held turbo brush that is great for vacuuming the car with.

to be reduced down to a maximum of 1600 Watts

GOOD!!

2300w is excessive and unnecessary. High wattage motors are simply a way for vacuum cleaner companies to avoid have to do much R&D. It's a cop out. "lets just stick a higher wattage motor in it, that'll do".

I'm not a huge Dyson fan, but credit where credits due, their R&D is second to none. They've engineered a machines that has very strong suction whilst managing to keep the motor wattage at or below 1400w.

Craig, the cleaners you are using are 650w (Panasonic), 800w (Hoover) and 1000w (Lux) but yet they're doing a perfectly good job of cleaning your home, right?

These high wattage motors are just inefficient. I went to a dedicated vacuum store when I bought that Electrolux. My Miele had a 1400 Watt motor and it worked well. The Electrolux has a 1000 Watt motor and it performs much better than the Miele. As a matter of fact I always use a lower setting than the full blast 1000 Watt, otherwise my parquet brush sticks to the floor!

My parents' Electrolux is 9 amps and thus 1000W (on 110V). My Miele S5 canister is 12A and thus 1300-1400W. I've never done an objective suction test but the suction feels about equal. If true, then Electrolux does the same job with fewer amps/watts.

Perfect clean

Yes Chris

My everyday Cleaner is the Panasonic, quiet & surprisingly powerful for a 650 watt motor machine & every Sunday the Electrolux Cylinder comes into play for a thorough all round top to bottom house clean.

My everyday Cleaner is the Panasonic

Good choice, Craig!

My Mum had the white MC-E44, which is the BOL of the slightly newer range - exactly the same as the older ones (like yours) but it had a 700w motor instead of 650w. We had that in daily use for 17 years in a house with 4 cats and 4 kids. It's now part of my collection.

I also have a lovely dark green MC-E47 with variable power, which was the last of the 40 series. It's a fab vacuum :).
