Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Thank you for the responses guys! You've been great so far!! I would like to use one of my older machines fulltime, but i have to admit i like the extra capacity!

Dascot what model zanussi do you have?

Darren

I apologize for the misinformation, guys. I thought there was some difference between "professional" Persil and that sold for residential use. There I go thinking again.

The best detergents to use are the usual ones from Ariel, Persil and Fairy although own-brands work just as well as them. One good thing to use is Filetti, although I haven't used it myself but it is worth a look. Apparently it is recommended by Miele lol!

I know a couple of great machines that will ensure that all the detergent is rinsed out. There's the Maytag/Asko machines with the 7 rinse feature and the Indesit Moon with the special rinse sensor. But my Miele rinses fine, no matter how many there are in a programme.

I've got a ZWF1440 - got it in autumn 04 and it seems, so far, to be working without any hitches. (*touches wood* *crosses fingers* etc... :-) )

I mostly use Tesco non-bio tablets, but occasionally use Fairy or Persil non-bio, all of which work fine and get out pretty much anything we've come across so far.

Congratulations..!!!

Hi Darren, well thats fantastic news, all the best to you both...as an uncle to 8 I`ve had the pleasure of washing loads of kidz stuff and you soon learn "your own" tricks of the trade....Personally, 2 sisters (6 nieces & nephews) wash with Ariel bio & comfort pure no probs using Zanussi 1400 Washer Dryers, 1 sister (one niece) washes with Fairy non bio & confort pure using Hottie 860 1600 washer, niece had rashes etc, I suggested cutting down on powder & conditioner adding super rinse, no probs...

I personally say:
Fast Spin Washer with extra rinse / sensitive option, time delay
Ariel bio & confort pure, (use half dosage and a drop of conditioner)
40d for all colours, 60d for nappies , towels etc
Load machine at night using soak option, then using delay start set to complete wash ready for breakfast..will certainly shift all those carrots, tomatoes and egg stains as well as baby vomit and poo (which you sometimes add too yourself in the process of getting used to it,) but hey that soon passes as you gaze down at your own!!!

Baby Bath Washing Tip, hot water and washing up liquid, rinsing very well, then add water, baby oilatum and baby....seen soooo many people bleach the hell out of the bath with a quick rinse and then wonder why the babys skin is pickled!!!

So, take as much and /or as little advice as you need, BUT always adapt and feel comfortable doing it YOUR WAY!!!

Enjoy, Mike

p.s. My sisters hubby had to don a full surgical lab mask when nappy changing, he never gotten used to it and though his problems where over when the "Out of Nappy" phase started!!! little did he know it only got worse as he was passed the used potty for him to flush, which in his mind / reaction was even worse...Oh dear!!

Hey people!
Thankyou for your wonderful responses.

Platinum6: If my budget allowed i would love a maytag/asko. Alas unless one comes up on ebay that won't be happening. And i wouldn't touch a moon though i've heard good reviews, i won't be having an indesitcompany product for awhile yet.

Mike! Many thanks for all the tips! I'm looking forward to moving my hotpoint on. I would have put one of my vintage machines in the kitchen but i have gotten real used to the larger drum size and the higher spins. plus i wouldn't want to wear them out!:D

Each time we've bought some baby clothes i've read the label, most of are made from cotton and can be washed on cottons, which is rather handy for max spinning.

I'm so finiky about rinsing for my own clothes that my child should have nothing to worry about lol! I'm probably going to try a few different things and see what seems to work best.

Now this will get you debating..

Liquid or Powder?

I like liquids alot good for pretreating, rinse out well...powders convinient, can prewash if necessary...oops but were being urged not to do that! lol.

Right while you all get tapping away,...i'm going to put the kettle on and put a load in the Cr*point..oops i mena hotpoint. easy mistake:D

Darren

LOL I know what your talking about Darren! I really dislike my Hotpoint too, and I dont have the extra rinse button that you have!!! Although mines started making a kind of "wet slapping" noise when its spinning LOL.

When my sister had her daughter, she consistently used fairy powder, and the tiniest trickle of asda sensitive softener. This was in her Servis EasiWash 600, and then in her Hoover Logic 1100, then on into her Hottie WM53 1200. Never failed to get the loads clean in any machine.

All white cot bedding, white towels, white socks, white cotton babygrows and vests etc went through the 95c programme without fail.

All coloured vests, babygrows, sleepsuits, coloured towels, and coloured cot bedding all got a 60c cotton wash. Bibs also got 60c cotton washed due to the backing not being able to survive 95c.

Only things that went on 40c really were general everyday clothes.
Never had problems with rinsing or itchy skin. Later changed to Tesco 2in1 powder with no irritations. I do advise you to test out supermarket brands, as they work out far cheaper especially when you have extra loads to do.

In all honesty although I thought I could never go back to a smaller drum or a lower spin, after using my Sisters Zanussi FLA1101W with 4.5kg drum and 1100spin. I find myself able to cope adequetly with the machine. Washing for 4 people. Doing around 7-10 loads a week including towels and sheets.

If you feel ive just jibbered on a bit, please feel free to dismiss my above advice!

Hey Dan!
Thanks for chippin in!:D You were jibberin on lol! Its good to get lots of different opinions! Wet slappin noise?! Mine sounds like a jetfighter. Not quite supersilent! Any chance of shifting your hotpoint too? lol.

hmm i shud really try some supermarket brands.

I used some fairy tabs on our own laundry today they gave a free wash with a baby magazine:D I forgot what it was like, when i first bought my logic i used to buy it in big box form and use it for everything!

Im hoping my recon chap who's taking my hotpoint will have a zanussi from the previous styling pushbutton models. Like a progress 7kg would be good!

Darren

it ain't how big it is but what you do with it

You, obviously, are going to be doing an awful lot of laundry soon. Unless you have enormously more space than most people I know (and a very big budget), many of those loads aren't even going to be 4.5Kg. I would absolutely not worry about having a big drum - my attention would be paid to how well the machine uses water and energy for washing partial loads.
You asked about liquids and powders. The biggest disadvantage of liquids is that they don't have bleach (at least I know of none). This is compensated for to some extent by the use of optical brighteners by some brands - which is definitely something you will want to avoid.
They do, however, "dissolve" well, rinse out well and are really great for spot-treating without overdosing on detergent.
Powders, on the other hand, are easier to dose in many older machines, may have bleach, and at least here in Munich the higher quality powders are cheaper per washload than the liquids.
The one thing I would absolutely not recommend is soap. Neither for the clothing nor for the baby's skin. Even if you aren't hysterical about cleanliness, babies just plain need frequent washing. I have my doubts about much of the bio-organic-health-foods-back-to-nature stuff (most of it is overpriced nonsense) but in this case there are some excellent baby care products from certified companies which are worth looking into.

Thought I was jibberin a bit, but thought i'd just share the experience I've had. Really would like to hear yours on a spin cycle and see what they sound like with bad bearings.
My machine apparently is now impervious to break-downs, and I'm so depserate to get rid of it lol, Im using 1600 on every load now just to try and wear it out now but its showing no signs of wear lol.

You talking of a Zanussi like this? I love these machines. Clean fantastically and I love the final spin when it drops and shoots upto full speed very Newwave ish LOL

IZZY WIZZY LETS GET BUSY!:D:P

Hey hey!
Well i might be the lucky owner of a Zanussi IZ by the end of the week! A recon chap in retford near us said he will take the hotpoint in exchange for the zanussi!:D Heres a pic!

Dan! I will try and get a vid of the thundersome 1600 up before it goes! Its most audiable with towels in it!

Very happy with the results of fairy tabs in my wash last night. I hadn't used them for a long time! Fairy used to be my daily driver! I have a voucher for £1 off a 30wash box in asda! Steady on the discount tesco! Sheesh! lol.
