Touchscreen Dishwasher?

Did I miss something?

Malcolm

( Too bad KENMORE is missing out on these machines )

And why not? They are made overseas so you have the exchange rate to factor into the price and the transportation across the ocean. But that does not matter to US corporations because American factories did not have to spend money to retool to make front loading washers. They don't have to pay living wages and benefits to American factory workers. If the foreign maker raises the price too much, our corporations will find someone else to make the machines for less money--never mind that they won't be the same for parts stocking & distribution. They will tell them to buy a new one when the old one needs fixing. The shareholders and the board will be just as happy as if they were actually making something instead of just selling something. They are all too short sighted to see the difference.

Touchscreen Dishwasher?

Sold as Kenmore - see link

Lawrence, they're really quite easy to use once you understand the concepts behind them. I like these because they are very informative. But I do wonder if these will be for oversease markets only or for U.S. market too.

@ Bob

"...But I do wonder if these will be for overseas markets only or for U.S. market too"

These machines are made strictly for northamerican markets : cycles such as WhitestWhites or Heavy Duty don't exist in the european programming mindset. European cycles are named by fabric type (cottons, synthetics, woolens ...) Maybe some "europeized" versions will be sold in Europe, where such big machines are niche models as here we've plenty of 24" models.

Not my guess, just facts. Spot it :

- on Whirlpool UK website . There are just two Duets : the SCW1112 WH and the HDW 1011, then one american toploader (LSQ 8033 SW) and one european toploader (AWE 6517). The other 29 models are all 24" frontloaders

- on WP France where 5 of the 11 available models are euro toploaders

- on Bauknecht Germany (Whirlpool uses mostly this vintage brand in Middle Europe)

- on WP Italy 8 of 29 are euro toploaders, 2 of 29 are Dreamspace(Duets)[this post was last edited: 7/8/2010-20:45]

Not a Miele

This gives me a whole new appreciation for the simplistic controls of my Miele. I was the young kid who programed everyone’s VCR’s back in the day; I’m not intimidated by electronics. This however seems overboard. I wish the companies here in the U.S.A would stop decorating products and start making them more durable as once was the case. Oh yea, and maybe also start making them here where we live and have few jobs for people. Maybe then I would pay the price. Until then, this “lipstick covered gutter trash appliance duo,” have no place in my laundry room.

Meanwhile our Miles are rocking the Sh_t our laundry. love'em .....

How many buttons?

Wow I thought my mothers LG was bad enough having to go through the motions to set a simple wash. These look way OTT.

Makes me so glad all I have to set is one dial and press one of 4 buttons to cater for all one could want in a laundry machine.

Exactly

Have we forgotten what washers are supposed to do? Just swish clothes through the water. Just like all the refrigerators today that have the temp settings on the outside freezer door. I buy a fridge, set the controls once, maybe change them once more, then they are set for life. All of this stuff is nice, but it has to be paid for. I see $3,000 refrigerators, $3,500 FL washers with pedestals. I'm not sure I've spent $3,500 on clothes in my entire life. Ha. And until they quit charging $200 each for pedestals, that are nothing more than an empty sheet metal boxes, I probably won't buy a FL machine. [this post was last edited: 7/9/2010-11:03]
