I found this yesterday at an estate sale for $35. It's desperate for a good detail cleaning and a little restoration work, but what a find!

In the meantime, I've been working on a Maytag DE-701 dryer that Don Shier picked up for me in Minneapolis. I brought it home last week and started working on it this afternoon. A couple of wire-straps and it will be ready to move downstairs to replace the 641c gas-converted-to-electric dryer I found last year with the Maytag 160 Pushbutton washer. This is the actual match to that washer, the pushbutton dryer didn't come out until 63 or 64. I changed the front panel out with the 641's panel because the original was pretty banged up and I wanted the edges to match the washer. The DE-701 had a different lip at the top (chrome edge) and the bottom creases near the gray strip - the later version was just a flat front.
Look how nicely this cleaned up! Not a speck of rust anywhere...

That Maytag dryer looks really nice and I bet it will look even better finally matched up with the 160. Isn't it great when the mechanicals are so simple it leaves lots of working room inside the cabinet? You could practically hide things behind there! Try doing that with a 29" Kenmore combo...;-)

Ohh nice dishwasher find Greg, and now you can change it to turquoise very easily with my old KDI15 panels. Be sure to bring your ear plugs, Neal commented the other day on how much he likes not having to turn the volume up on the TV whenever I start the dw like he used to when I had the KDI15 installed.
Greg that KDA15 is just beautiful. How neat too that it is a portable. You will have it looking brand new in no time. Love the Maytag 701 as well. Be sure to show us a picture when it is next to its partner. Have a great weekend there.

Well, the DW, very cool, and will be a nice addition.
The Dryer, no comparison to them in my book. No one ever made a dryer that could compare to this machine for home laundry. Why was the HOH dumped to begin with, I guess perhaps too heavy and hard for the techs to move?
Anywho, very nice on both counts.

Hey Greg - nice finds there! Those early electronic control HOH dryers are my favorite - the dials are so versatile! To find one of those for the pink set would be very cool.
Nice KA as well - I can just see you chopping away on a nice ham bone - less the pair of heals! LOL

LOVE that script on "Superba"! It reminds me of the 60's Sear's logo.
Maytag had lots of problems with the control on the 701 dryer which is why later top of the line dryers with the electronic dryness control used the "Highlander Controls" with the 4 buttons or the 4 settings on the dial and Maytag stopped trying to combine a timer with the electronic dryness control, according to veteran Maytag Service Techs.
Greg, I hope yours works perfectly. Please let us know if the dial moves on the timed settings.
You can take the top off the KDS55, slip some insulation between the tub and the outer cabinet, do the thick fiberglass behind the lower front panel, sound panels on the inner door and a KA washer sound pad on the bottom of the shell, like they do with the washers and quiet it down a good bit. While you have the top off, slap some epoxy paint on the cabinet around and above the fill air gap so you won't have rusting. My 58 is quieter than the 18, but not by much. Phone conversations are possible when either is performing.

I moved the dryer downstairs yesterday afternoon and need to make a couple of adjustments, level the cabinet, etc. but it seems to be fine all around. The timed cycles work just fine and the electronic control tests are good. We shall see...
I started on the KA dishwasher yesterday as well, the machine has had some use but it's in really good shape too - just dirty, I've never seen so much coffee dribbled down the front of a machine! The cutting board was obviously well-used so it needs stripping and sanding. I'm going to use the panels from Robert's KDI-15 so we'll have a turquoise front.
