Finally, some goodies

We brought a few things in, but still have 2 boxes and a few wrapped things in the car. Can you believe it????

Anyway, we bought a couple of what appear to be unused wedding gifts. The dealer had actually met the inventor of the Traymaster!

And a lovely bread tray, napkin holder and S & P set! Should be a nice compliment to the North Star dishes Rich has been hoarding.... I mean, putting together a set of (we have berry bowls to serve 46 people!).

And something Rich has been looking for since before he found the booklet for it on eBay. A Brochette by West Bend! In the box with a nice clean booklet of its own!

And a very cool late 1940's Sunbeam Shavemaster store display. The shaver still works!

And, by the by, did they have some major dom/sub thing back then? Coffeemaster, Toastmaster, Traymaster, Shavemaster..... Where are the Coffeeslave, Toastslave, Trayslave and Shaveslave???

So you guys were about 10 minutes from my house.....

Next time you plan to be in the area, let me know. Did you go to Renninger's Indoor Flea Market while you were in Adamstown? It's right down the road from Adam's. If you were at Adam's did you go to Zia Maria's for dinner?

Dave

Hey Dave,

We had no idea! Yes, we did Renninger's Sunday in Adamstown (skipped Kutztown Saturday), and that's where we met up with the dealer who had the Sunbeam display in Adam's (had to negotiate, don'tcha know!). There were about 10-12 dealers set up outside too!

We've been going down there for Extravs and the like for about 7-8 years now. Even know the back way from Kutz to Adamstown through Fritztown/Heidelberg (take a Louie at 879 in Reinholds!)! Got my terriyaki jerky at Weaver's before coming home too!

It was weird being down there and not going to Shupp's though (Rich's fave place). I offered to drive by just so Rich could get a whiff of the grove, but he passed.

We didn't go to Zia, but we did hit Silk City Sunday night (Saturday was a Chinese buffet in Reading). Evergreen Diner has become the "go-to" place for breakfast, since the Adamstown (now Dave's?) Diner has gone downhill. 5th St Diner is pretty good when we stay nearer Reading though.

There's a diner out 897 to 422: the Kumm Esse. Been there? Best corn fritters! We haven't been there in a few years.... maybe time to schedule dinner off the beaten track next time!!!

Did you pop into the shops for the President's Day sales??? Did you visit the crazy lady at Apple Works?

Chuck

Holy Cow!

Kumm Esse (across from the big water tower)! Great Chicken Croquets! I drive past there often when I go to Camp Swatara with my wife and daughter. So you were at Silk City!! My friends (the Barakos's) own that restaurant. Great deserts there. George Barakos was trained as a pastry chef, so all those deserts are home made. There is a great steakhouse around back as well. I'm down in Sinking Spring (basically around the road from Weavers). If you guys are into hibachi or sushi, we could hit Panda Heaven too.

Candid Photos

I can't believe I am telling you all this, but here is my secret for photographing "hot" people.
If you have a camera, just tell them you are a photographer working for the local area management(this works great at conventions, shopping malls, etc.) and that you are taking pics of people "enjoying" the facilities for a future publication. Then just grab them by the arm, position them and tell them to smile and before they know what hit them, you have your pic and then say "Thank You!" and you are on your way. They never knew what hit them!
If it works for photographing girls, it should also work on guys too.

Sinking Spring

We go right through there when we take the back way from KU to A'town during Extravs, instead of fighting the traffic. But, it seems that 222 from SS to Adamstown has improved. Took that way from Reading Sat night and we were back lickety split. Is it better during the weekdays now too? We were getting off in Sinking Spring (Turkey Hill at the top of the ramp), taking a right, then going all the way into town. We'd bang a right at the Notary then a quick left at the lights near the police station and over those horrid tracks (Fritztown Rd?) and head to 897. Then out to 272. We found that faster than fighting 3-4pm Thursday traffic. I used to go that way from Reading for the opening of the Angus on Sat mornings, but, looking back, 222 wouldn't have been a problem at that time of the AM.

I'm right off of Fritztown Road! Next time you're around let me know. If you take 222, you can take 183 (Bernville) and at the Reading Airport there is a restaurant called Maliboos. I took Rich (TrainGuy) there when we swapped Frigidaires.

PS: 222 is a nigthmare any time of day. I travel that to Allentown a few times a month and it sux because it's a two-lane road, 1 north and 1 south.

FINALLY

A couple of pix of what we found. How G-A-Y is this Moss lamp? We need to do a little repair work on the shade, but it was a great deal! And, yes, she twirls!!!

So, thanks to the fact that I pay attention to what other people are talking about when we're in antique shops (Rich says "nosy"), we went down the road where we normally wouldn't have gone. That's where that FAB kitchen set was (we didn't buy it). We DID buy this super fabulous, oh so gay, (looks like something you'd dream about after eating too much Chinese food), wall set.
