Hey guys.... I have about an 8 month old GE convection microwave. It's a counter top model that I got from Lowes. I've already had to replace the wave guide myself because it was arcing and burned a hole though it. Now, when I go to push the button to open the door, the door doesn't want to open. If I've opened it recently, it works fine, but if the microwave sits unused overnight and then I go to open in in the morning, I have to play with it and stab the button pretty hard to get the thing open. Anyone have a clue as to what might be going on here? Thanks!

Our Sharp started to do the same thing after a few years. We took a damp cloth and cleaned the 2 latches on the door, which had gotten some kind of food or grease on them causing the door to stick. It has been fine ever since. Hope this will help you out.

I can't exchange it because this model has been discontinued and they no longer sell a countertop convection oven... mind you I don't use that feature very often, but I do like having it in case I want to... plus I love "quick start" buttons that GE microwaves have.... I like the way this one looks too.... I tried cleaning the latches with a paper towel and the inside with a q-tip, but the problem remains. Maybe I should call GE for service, but the last time I did that for the wave guide, the tech lied to me and told me it wasn't under warranty, refused to come, and instead said he'd mail the parts that I could install myself.... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Take it back

I also think you should take it back for a refund. It may have all the features you like and look good.... but what good is it if it does not work? I'm guessing it was discontinued because it is a LEMON model. They usually do not discontinue winner models.
